Chapter Four

At the restaurant, the big group was split up.  Rosie sat on my left side with Matthew on her left side, and Jack sat on my right side, with his arm around my shoulders.  Nash was directly in front of me, with Hayes on his right and JJ on his left.  The other table was laughing and talking loudly, and our table was silent.  It was weird because we had some of the loudest boys. 

I was tired of the awkward silence and said, “So what are you guys going to eat?”

Everyone looked at me and gave all different answers at the same time.  I wasn’t sure what any of them said.  I giggled.  Then, everyone started talking.  My question led to everyone having conversations.  Yes!  I was good!  Rosie and Matthew were talking about LA.  Nash, JJ and Jack were talking about some new video game. 

“Hey Eliza, what are you going to get to eat?” Hayes asked.

I turned and replied, “Oh, probably a deluxe double hamburger.”

Most boys look at me and think I’m crazy when I get food like that, but not Hayes.  He laughed and said, “That’s awesome.  I have never heard a girl say that before.  I was actually thinking about getting the same thing.”

I laughed along with him and said, “I cant help it!  I probably get it from this monster.” I patted Jack on the back, and he immediately took his arm off my shoulder and said, “Oh, sorry. Is that bothering you?” He asked.

“No, you can leave your arm there.  I was just telling Hayes that I probably get my eating habits from you.” I replied.

Nash started laughing and said, “Oh God Eliza!  You must eat a lot then if you have your brother’s eating habits.  He’s getting the Deluxe Double Hamburger!”

I blushed while Hayes said, “But she said she was getting that too.”

Sure enough, Nash looked at me crazily, just like every other guy.  But he soon started to laugh.  He laughed so hard he couldn’t stop.

“Eliza is definitely your little sister!” Nash said.

Jack used his free arm and ruffled my hair.  Matthew and Rosie were literally missing the entire conversation.  The three boys continued to talk about something unimportant while Hayes and I talked about our interests and goals in life.  Soon, the waitress came to our table to ask us what we wanted to eat.  We all answered, and then continued talking. 

When the food arrived, Nash said, “Wait!  We have to see if Eliza has her brother’s eating habits!  We are going to have a food eating contest with Eliza and…um…Hayes!  If Eliza wins, we will know that she is telling the truth.”

This contest made no sense, but I guess I had no choice.  Nash called the boys from the other table, and I’m pretty sure all of them had their phones out to take a vine or video of this. 

I was a little scared because it was Hayes, but when I turned to look at him, he had a napkin tucked into his shirt and said, “Let the better eater win.”

I laughed and nodded.

“Ready…Set…GO!” Rosie screamed.

I immediately took off the top bun and started to eat it.  I would have to eat it layer by layer if I was going to win.  I heard GO GO GO, but I was too concentrated to pay full attention.  When I was at the last layer, the bottom bun, I looked up and Hayes was nearly done with his.  I shoved the whole thing into my mouth and swallowed.  I stood up, and Jack picked my arm up and showed everyone I was winner.  Hayes set down the bite of his burger he had left, and clapped.  He looked like he was about to barf, but he was still laughing.  All the boys came up to me, hugged me, and congratulated me.  Hayes came up and hugged me too.  It was the best hug I had ever gotten.  When we parted, everyone went back to their seats. 

Nash said, “I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU ACTUALLY DID THAT!”

I laughed and replied, “Well, I don’t lie.” 

Rosie nudged me and whispered, “That was romantic.”

I stepped on her foot under the table, and she winced.  We both giggled, and then she turned back to her conversation with Matthew.  Wow, those two were really bonding.  Later, after the meal was paid for, we got back into the huge limo and went back to the hotel.  Cameron and Nash went into Jack and JJ’s room to hang out.

“Hey, Eliza!” Cameron whispered through the door.

I opened it and Cameron snuck inside.  Rosie was in the bathroom, probably talking to Matthew on the phone. 

“Hey Cameron, what’s up?” I asked.

Cameron smiled and said, “Well, I’ve got some news for you.  Hopefully you like it.”

I was nervous while replying, “What is it?”

Cameron took a deep breath before saying, “Well, Hayes has a crush on you.  Well, a big crush.  Aaron is hanging out with him right now and promised to tell Nash and I everything Hayes says about you.  Since Nash is his big brother, he wont really tell Nash very much.  So, we got Aaron to do it for us.  I’ll let you know what he says!”

Cameron got up and left quickly, not even letting me respond.  Wow, Hayes Grier has a crush on me.
