The next morning, I woke up to my phone dinging.  I groaned and looked at it.

One missed call from: Mom

Oh great, I forgot to call Mom yesterday.  I opened up my contacts, and called Mom.

“Hey sweetie.” She said, not sounding upset at all.

“Hi Mom.  How are you?” I asked.

Mom answered, “Good, you forgot to call yesterday Eliza.”

I sighed and said, “Yeah, I know, I’m sorry Mom.”

Her voice turned from soft to excited when she said, “That doesn’t matter honey!  Jack told me about you and Hayes!  That’s so awesome sweetie!”

I laughed and replied, “Wow Mom.  Why did Jack tell you?  What did he say?”

“Well, he told me you spent the whole day talking and riding roller coasters with Hayes.  Then, he told me that you and Hayes laid next to each other and watched the fireworks.” She said quickly.

I responded, “How does Jack know I was with Hayes the whole time?”

Mom said, “Honey, Jack watches over you like I do.  You know how protective he is of you.”

I nodded while saying, “Yeah, that is true.  He is a really good big brother.”

Mom and I continued to talk for the next 30 minutes.  When we hung up, Rosie was laying in her bed texting someone.

“Are you texting your Mom?” I asked.

“No, I called her yesterday.  I’m texting Matthew!” Rosie said excitedly.

I laughed while saying, “I should have known.”

Rosie paused and then and said, “I am so glad that I got to come.  Matthew is really nice, and he’s super cool.”

Rosie has never had a boyfriend before.  Back home, all the boys thought of her as their friend, not their girlfriend.  Poor Rosie, she was so outgoing and funny, but the boys always developed a friendship instead of a relationship.  I was glad she met Matthew, but there were a few flaws.

“You know, he is older than you, and he lives about 8 hours away.” I said.

She looked up from her phone and replied, “Yeah, but we have phones.  And why would it matter if he was older?”

“I don’t know, think about it Rosie.  8 hours is pretty far away.” I asked.

She got up, came up to me, hugged me, and started to cry.

“I’m tired of being one the guys’ friends, I want to be someone’s girlfriend now.  Matthew likes me, and I like him back.  I’m so tired of liking boys at home, and they don’t even realize that I like them, but then when they do, they think I’m weird.  It’s not fair that when a boy likes me back, he has to live 8 hours away.” Rosie said slowly.

I whispered, “Its okay.  It’s okay.  Don’t worry, you and Matthew will figure something out.”

She pulled away and nodded while wiping the tears off her face.

We got dressed, and then went down to eat breakfast by ourselves.  We needed a little break from boys right now.
