Three minutes until the bell would ring and she could finally leave this torture that the teachers referred to as 'tier time'. (*A/N for those of you that don't know, my school has a thing called tier time which is basically just a half hour at the end of the day where it's supposed to be a "structured study hall" more info at the end.) Gods how Annabeth wished she could make time move faster. Sadly that was a power reserved for the gods alone. So she sat at her desk, headphones in, and prayed to any god that would listen, for time to move faster.
Two minutes. Realizing her prayers would not turn ahead the clock, she turned them to a different purpose. Hoping Stephanie would be anywhere but her way outside.
One minute. By this time, Annabeth was exhausted. She loved school, sure, but that didn't mean it didn't make her tired. It was the day before Spring Break and she was looking forward to a week spent at camp with Percy and her friends.
The bell rang and Annabeth wasted no time leaping out of her seat and out the door. She rushed down the hallway hoping to beat Stephanie to the door. Although, that was nearly impossible. Annabeth had the sour luck of coming from the classroom at the end of the hall, on the second floor. While Stephanie had the class two rooms from the exit. Her and all her cruel friends. Annabeth could risk going out a side entrance, but if she didn't open one properly, it would set off the broken alarm. She would have been able to if the hallway wasn't already crowded with students, being watched closely by teachers. Most of the teachers stood at the door to their rooms but a few wandered with the flow of students. Those teachers happened to include Mrs. John. A teacher who hated all students and was widely hated in return. It was a wonder alone why she still had a job at the school.
Regardless she always had a special little hatred reserved especially for Annabeth. Sadly Annabeth had this teacher for English and Tier Time so since she left the classroom, this teacher followed Annabeth down the hall, just a few feet behind her, watching for any misstep that could give her a reason to call Annabeth out. So going out a side door was out. She would have to go out the front main entrance.
Annabeth was grateful when she felt Mrs. John's evil eyes leave her back to turn back to her classroom. Unfortunately, they were replaced by the sinister gaze of Stephanie.
The girl struck Annabeth as the spitting image of Drew. That is if Drew had brown hair, the worst spray tan in existence, and wore double the makeup.
"Hi Annabelle. I got you a date. Ya know, to replace that imaginary boyfriend of yours." Stephanie sneered, faking a southern accent. She motioned towards Todd, frequently referred to as 'Toad', he was, to put it bluntly, a nobody. While being a nerd, he hadn't made a real name for himself in anything. He didn't attend any clubs and stayed to the back of the classes. It didn't help that his face was covered in acne scars and his eyes always looked like he was waiting for another hit of whatever he was taking.
"Stephanie I told you before, I have a boyfriend." Annabeth growled, keeping her head low as she tried to duck outside.
Stephanie's spray tanned arm held her back. "Not so fast. You shouldn't have an attitude with me. It's so rude." She snarled the last part and Annabeth knew she was not leaving anytime soon.
Stephanie wrapped her arm around Annabeth's neck and walked her to the first row of lockers to slam her against them. Annabeth sunk to the ground as one of the other girls with Stephanie ripped her backpack away from her.
The lobby where they were was empty as everyone had already left. Stephanie took the bag from the other girl and opened it. She grinned evilly as she pulled out Annabeth's dagger. "A phone in school?" She asked. Annabeth relaxed slightly in relief that Stephanie had no idea what it really was.
