BRETT
I kept my promise and kept his secret. Which is getting harder to keep.
A week after, I discovered his sickness, Morgan's sister came by, and are now staying for a bit. They've been here for two days, and Nate's mother should be here today. She called at the airport while he was asleep, so she said she'd get an Uber. He was supposed to pick her up.
I've managed to keep this secret, but in the week, I've known, to my own eyes, he's getting worse. Not so much that Moran or Phoebe has noticed... More so, they think he's being... Well... Nate.
It's literally killing me emotionally to hide something as big as Nate's possible death from everyone, especially his own Girlfriend and Mother.
They deserve to know right hand, but if Nate doesn't want them to know, that's his choice, I can't force him to tell him. It's truly his decision and I respect that.
At this moment, little Briar was being hogged by her Aunty Alex, while my wife helped Morgan make dinner.
That's when Briar started fussing, making Alex look over. "Morgan, she's fussy, where's Nate?" She asked.
Oh, so Alex knows that trick to. Briar's fussing. Give her to her father, she calms down instantly. Morgan learned that trick the first night they had her home. She gave the baby to Nate for five minutes to gather some things from the kitchen, and when she returned, the baby was asleep.
"I dunno. Probably working on some of his music, or sleeping.. He's getting a little annoyed because he hasn't had any sleep, or any chance to work on music." Morgan explained.
"Well he needs to come here. His daughter is freaking."
"Alex, you can't expect him to stop work for her, I mean, sure she's his daughter, but his job brings in money, which we need to support the baby.. Leave him be." Morgan scolded calmly.
Alex rolled her eyes, gently bouncing the baby to calm her down. I then look over, when I see my wife walk to me.
"If you're looking for Nate, he's in the bathroom off their bedroom." She said in a hushed tone. "... On the floor.."
"Why were you in their room?" I ask.
"I was emptying the garbage's. He didn't notice me. He looked at me, but didn't recognize me as me, until five minutes after that." She told me.
"Odd." I bite my lower lip, looking to my side.
"Is he all right?" She asked.
"Maybe, he's tired." I say.
"Want me to get Morgan? She can help him." She asked.
"No, no. It's fine. I'll go talk to him. Have a little guy chat with him." I say.
"All right, but please figure out what's going on with him, before he draws attention to himself... Attention, he won't want." She told be, before leaving me in the hallway.
I let out a sigh. I just lied to my wife. I feel so bad. But betraying Nate while he's like this might be worse than lying.
But my wife is on to Nate's strange behavior.. Maybe, just maybe, if I can convince Nate, I might be able to tell my wife.
But I doubt it.
I walk into his bedroom, walking into the bathroom off his room, only to find Nate sitting on the bathroom floor, with his knees pressed to his chest, and a while towel folded up to his chest and neck. His glasses were on the floor beside him.
"Nate?" I ask.
"What? I'm okay." He looked up blinking.
"It's Brett."
