I end up leaving physical education and going to health with Robert, Zach, and Jocelyn. I sit down and look around wondering if the next person who talks to me will bring up Austin. The next person who does, turns out to be closer to me than I thought.
"I saw the tweets Austin said about you." Robert says
"Yeah, Alex says 'hi just misses me' but people are treating me like crap."
"Honestly Carter, the last time Austin acted like this was before he was famous. And he did the same thing with a girl named Jessica. Eventually, he fell in love with Jessica, and Jessica broke his heart. If you feel like people are giving you crap now, it'll be worst if you break his heart."
"Robert, that's not fair. Austin and I are best friends. I don't want to ruin what we have got and turn that into a relationship."
"Take a chance. Look around you, your other best friends took a chance. Zach and Jocelyn took a chance and they where friends. I started off friends with Sadie. Alex and Reba are friends for right now, but we all know they're eventually going to take a chance."
"I know, but I don't think I'm ready Robert."
I can't believe I'm taking advice from my ex.
"Just think about it." Robert says
I try to respond but the teacher enters the classroom. Apparently we have to learn about sexual intercourse so I just zone Mr. Loosner out and give the nature outside the window my attention. I zone in and out of the Mr. Loosner talking about the right partner and when a person knows it's the right time. Then I see a two students passing out items.
"What are we doing?" I whisper to Robert
"Weren't you listening? We're all practicing putting a condom on a banana."
I feel immediately awkward with all the people in the classroom.
"Why are we girls doing it? Isn't that the males job?" I say trying to get out of putting a condom on a banana.
"You never know when a guy might want you to put it on." Robert smirks
"But I've never touched a condom before, and didn't plan on having sex anytime soon." I confess
"You never know. Just watch me, it's not that hard."
The real question is when did Robert learn how to put a condom on? We never did anything like that.
After the long time of being embarrassed I finally get the condom on the banana.
And it breaks. Everyone stops what they're doing to look at me to laugh or smirk including the teacher. Then the bell rings.
