I went home and laid across my bed thinking. I shouldn't have left Zach with Esmi. She's my boss, but we're the same age. Her parents own the store so they put her in charge every now and then. Esmi probably thinks I'm friends with a bunch of freaks. She saw Austin and now Zach? I tried to talk to Zach, but he just ignored me and kept honking his horn every time I tried to talk. Esmi came out and asked what was going on. I explained to her that Zach was drunk and he wouldn't let me take me home so Esmi offered to take him home. I shouldn't have said yes, but Esmi was sober and Zach wasn't. I felt like I put Zach into another girls arms without even meaning to. I grab my cell and two way call Sadie and Reba.

"I'm afraid of talking to Jocelyn after what happened. I don't know...she probably wants to kill me." I start

"She even told me that she wants to kill you, but I promise that was only the day of the incident."

"It doesn't matter if it was just the day of the incident. She still said it."

"Listen Carter, just talk to her. Oh and call Austin to." Reba says

"I agree, especially with Austin." Sadie says

"What do you mean? Where did Austin come from?"

" We know about the song he wrote for you. Um "All I Ever Need" I think right? He's been calling us and running the song by us as well with the guys." Reba answers

"Yeah, and I'm tired of his phone calls. He should be calling you not us." states Sadie

A light smile creeps on my face as I think about how much effort and time Austin put into this song for me.

"I'm not making any promises with Austin, but I'll call Jocelyn now so I'll talk to you guys later."

Sadie, Reba, and I hang up from our conversation. I dial Jocelyn's number with shaky hands and press call. Jocelyn answers the phone pissed. I explain myself of what happened with Austin and the phone call and the yelling and I apologized for being a witch that day. She said okay that she's been slowly but trying to forgive me. I ask her if we could have lunch tomorrow since it would be Sunday. She said yes but that she needed to go because she was going to Nashville in a couple of days and needed to pack. I  let her go and run downstairs for a snack.

"Hey mom." I say, passing her on the way to the fridge.

"Carter, are you doing the frickle fackle? Be honest. I'm watching this show and this teenage girl was lying to her mom about it and ended up having a child."

Frickle fackle means sex in my home.

"Mom no I'm not, and I don't want to have this talk!"

"Well do you know who the condoms go on?"

"Mom!"

"Oh many balls do guys have?"

"Mother! I am leaving!"

My mother is one of those parents who can spring frickle fackle into anything and I just look at her like Austin looked at his friend when he ate straight mustard. Oh great now I'm thinking about Austin again. I lay back down on my phone and eat the popcorn I grabbed from the pantry until I doze off.
