I only make it half way home until I see a red range rover coming up beside me. Austin is only going twenty miles per hour, and I know I should get in the car, but he can't just be upset with me then come to my rescue, can he?
"I'm not getting in the car."
"Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't of yelled and I'm sorry that I didn't understand that you want an education."
"Whatever Austin, just please leave me alone. You don't understand. You can't just yell at me over the phone then apologize, and think I'm going to forgive you." I take a deep breath while Austin pulls over behind me putting his car in park.
I turn around to face the hood of his car and we instantly make eye contact through the windshield.
"Austin, find someone else. Go find a girl who doesn't want an education, and who will understand your schedule. A pretty celebrity girl Your fans still fight over you being with Camila and Becky, and you and Becky are great together." I say spitting the words out.
"That's true, they're pretty--"
"Wow just say right to my face then."
"You just said it, and you didn't let me finish. Yes Carter, Camila and Becky are pretty but you're beautiful to me. I want you."
Austin steps out of his ranger rover and heads toward me, and I take a step back knowing I can't take this but not wanting to take a break. I look him in the eyes and it's like I broke him with just taking that one step back.
"I made a mistake Carter. Everyone makes mistakes. Nobody's perfect."
"Nobody's perfect, but everyone has a decision and you made yours."
I turn around and start walking home again feeling the nice breeze on my skin. I try not to think of Austin as I walk but he's only a foot away, and that brings tears to my eyes.
"Well I guess we need a break from each other then!" Austin shouts
I turn around and just say the words I never wanted to say,
"I guess we need a break then."
