((Marissa POV))
Tears blur my vision as Kendra shoves Jared aside and runs into the back kitchen.
My heart is officially broken....
I press my back against the wall and slide down to the floor, letting my tears consume me. Jared, still behind the counter, turns and presses his head against the wall. I want to smack him so hard. I can't believe he would betray me.
Jared turns around and takes his keys from his pocket and holds them in his fist. He doesn't say anything, but stomps out the store door and into the dark night.
I don't know what to do, other than cry.
The two people that I wanted were just on the floor, doing bad things to each other.
I bring my knees up to my chest and sob into the knees of my sweatpants. Everything is quiet until I hear the front door open and close, but I don't look up. I jolt a bit when I feel a hand rubbing my back and the warmth of someone's body beside me.
"I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry, Marissa. I fucked up. I shouldn't have done that in your work place. That must've been weird for you." Jared's voice says.
I whip my head up and glare at him.
"THAT'S what you're sorry for?! Because it was 'weird' for me?!" I snap.
Jared puts his hands up in defeat.
"Well yeah..I'm sorry." He mumbles.
I stand up and so does he.
"Marissa, calm down. Please. I don't know why you're so upset."
Tears continue to fall down my cheeks as I connect my fist with the side of Jared's face. He lets out a surprised grunt and holds his face while blood starts pouring from a gash. Oh fuck. My ring caught his skin. My eyes get wide and I start panicking. My head whips around and out of some animal instinct, I run. No, I sprint. I turn and sprint from the store, from the woman of my dreams, from the man of my dreams, and from what is now probably going to be my former workplace.
***********
I pick up my phone.
It's Kendra calling me again.
I hit ignore for the actual twentieth time and pick up my bottle of Rum Chata.
"Here's to me. May one of these drinks actually fucking kill me." I grumble.
I have never drunk more than two shots of any alcohol and that did nothing to me. But this..this has pushed me over the edge. I don't care what happens tonight. I left all of my doors unlocked in the hope that someone comes and either kills me or buys me more booze.
After I drink half of the bottle, I start to feel all warm and my thoughts stop harassing me. I sway a little and continue drinking.
"Hey...h-hey...you-you should prolly set dawn 'fore you fall." I slur to myself.
"Oh....okayyyyyyy" I reply.
I listen to myself and sit on the couch. My phone starts ringing. I pick it up and yell at it.
"SHHHHHHH YOU'RE SO LOUD."
It keeps ringing.
"SHHHHHHHH IM AWAKE, SHTOP SCREAMING AT ME."
I open my eyes wide and actually look at my phone.
"Ohhhhhhh I gotshu." I unlock my phone and hit answer.
"Marissa?" A panicked voice says.
"Heyyyyy thash my nameeee, who dis?"
"Marissa? It's Kendra. It's important I need you."
"Kin-der-ah? What's a 'Kin-dra-eh'?"
"No; Ken-drah. As in the girl you work with."
"Ohhhhhhh. Heyyyy I know a Kendraaaaa. I ushed to wove her shooooooo mush but-but she doeshn't like me back."
"Marissa, where are you?"
"I'm at hoooooomeeeee."
I set down my phone.
"Ohhhh my goshhhhh driiiiiinkkkk!" I scream, picking up my bottle and chugging down the last bit.
I look over to see my apartment door swing open.
I jump up and slip on the rug by the couch.
I open my eyes and groan. I see a bunch of spots everywhere and my vision starts blurring.
The last thing I remember seeing is a man walking towards me.
