Chapter 10: Alex-Confrontation.

I awoke the next morning, something that felt like paper attached to my face. I groaned and fumbled to get it off my face.

                Mornin’ Alex!

Come and see me by the castle gates, time to talk to Queen Lomadia and King Xephos!

                -Maia

I smiled slightly and got some clothes on.  I left the house, not making a sound with the door, as I didn’t want my parents and Eve, to wake up. The fresh morning air flew by and a stray feather flew past my face. I made my way over to the castle gates and saw Maia, she was resting up against one of the walls, looking at the passerby’s. She saw me and waved hello. I waved back and we met up.

“Hey Maia.” I said, putting my hands in my pockets.

“Alex, ready to head inside?”

“Yeah, how are we doing that exactly?” I asked.  Maia giggled and held up a scroll with a dark blue ribbon.

“By this, and the prophecy.” She replied. “One mention of that and the King and Queen must listen.” We walked to the guards and they stopped us, just as I expected.

“Halt, what is your business?” One asked.

“We request and audience with King Xephos and Queen Lomadia, tell them it is urgent and relates to the prophecy.” Maia said proudly.  The two guards looked at each other, one left and the other stayed. Moments later the guard returned, his face pale.

“Go right ahead.” The guard said shakily. As we left I heard them talking, apparently the Queen was quite vocal when they talked.  The King and Queen were sitting on their thrones, waiting for us to come closer. The King’s eyes widened when he saw me, probably recognising me from the other day.

“My King, My Queen. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us.” I said bowing my head.

“Yes, now, I heard Miss.Lovewood has a message for us.” Queen Lomadia said. Maia nodded her head and undid the scroll, she handed me the ribbon and began to talk.

“Dear Queen Lomadia and King Xephos. My name is Aleria, Queen of the Alerius Realm. Your world and my own world are in grave danger. The prophecy, which I am sure you are both aware of, has come upon us.  I have alerted my representative, Maia Lovewood, who is one of the seven in the kingdoms who can travel between my own world and your own.  As you may be aware of, Alex Flight, is one of the seven chosen ones, destined to save the kingdoms from eternal darkness.  I would ask that you allow Maia and Alex to access your royal armoury to equip themselves for this journey and to give Alex an item to represent your Kingdom. As the seven will be meeting in the Kingdom of Blades, King Mitch and King Jerome as well as their royal guards must be able to recognise them. As well it shows your support and your agreement to this cause. Signed by Queen Aleria, ruler of the Alerius Realm.” Maia rolled up the scroll and looked at the King and Queen, waiting for their answer.

“I have seen this prophecy first hand, and Alex will be allowed to go.” King Xephos said. Queen Lomadia nodded and pulled out a feather, enclosed in a glass bottle.

“Here, you will take this feather, one of Mr.Owl’s to represent the Kingdom of Flight.” Queen Lomadia said. "I have seen your skills first hand and trust you to keep yourselves safe. But, we will allow you to access the armoury.”

“Thank you my Queen, my King.” I said with a bow.

“Thank you Queen Lomadia and King Xephos, we won’t disappoint you.” Maia said.  King Xephos called a guard over and he led us to the armoury. Once we arrived the guard opened the door and told us to get whatever we needed.  We entered and any weapon you could imagine of was inside. Maia squealed and rushed over to some of the ranged weapons.  I looked over at my right and saw some basic swords.  I grabbed an iron one and waved it around.  It felt right and I picked up a matching sheath for it. Attaching it to my belt I walked over to Maia. In her hands was a bow and she was looking at quivers full of different tipped arrows.

“How about that one? It matches your necklace.” I said, pointing at a quiver. It had silver tipped arrows in a leather quiver. Maia looked up at me and smiled. She took the quiver and put it on her back.

“Awesome. When are we leaving?”

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” I said with a chuckle.

“Oh. Right. Tomorrow?” She replied, blushing slightly.

“Sounds good to me.” I answered. We left the castle and went back to our own houses. I explained the situation to my family and they understood completely. There were some tears but what can you expect from a family who is sending there sixteen year old on a dangerous mission? But they were family after all. I fell asleep that night, thankfully without any dreams.
