Me, Matt, and Cam were sitting on the couch when I got a text.
BirthGiver: Alright missy. Here's the deal, Matt accidentally spilled the beans that you're seeing a boy... me and him are gonna have a little talk tomorrow. K?
Jade: whatever you say.
I glared at Matt, "Oh Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttt!" I drew out to his name successfully annoying him.
He turned to look at me, returning my glare with one of his own. "What's this I hear about you telling a certain parent that I'm in a relationship?" His glare dropped.
He played it off and shrugged, Cam on the other hand... "What, wait? She knows? I thought you were keeping it a secret?"
Matt couldn't sat anything, this was all his fault, "... ok so, yeahhh. But she doesn't know who it is."
Idiot I know that much. I thought as I contemplated why he's so stupid. I turned to Cameron, "We're gonna go see her tomorrow." I said trying and failing to give a reassuring grin.
He paused, "We're? No offense. I mean, I'm fine with going, but you know Matt and Brennan weren't at first and I don't want the Ol' Mama Bear coming out."
I shrugged it off nothing I can do about it. If he doesn't want to go whatever, I can manage. "Matt, time for you to go home!" I exclaimed dragging him out the door. Once it was shut I turned to Cameron, his beautiful self smiled at me, his innocent eyes showing that he was worried about what my mother would do.
I grinned at the thought. I could imagine if he went with me, he would be stuttering and explaining his (pretty much) pure intentions and she just shoves more questions down his throat. 'Now hold on!' He evaded my thoughts with sassiness evident in his tone,'Cameron here would have just a little more dignity than that.'
Surrreee. Whatever you say. For the rest of that day me and Cam sorta scripted out what u might say till I realized that I would never be able to stick to a script. I was just gonna have to own up to whatever came my way. I can handle this woman, I did for 19 years.
The next morning we met at my old house, her house, whatever you want to call it. I didn't even knock, I just casually walked in. It made me smile, nothing had changed. The living room was still arranged the same, with the couch by the far wall, the love seat next to it, and the recliner by the door. My cat, Viola, purred slightly as scratched the top of her head.
"JJJAAADDDDEEEE!" Brace for impact. My dad crushed me in a giant hug, "Clear!" My dad squeezed me with a painful little flex.
"She's alive!" I heard my very elderly grandma say as she waddled herself into the living room. I wiggled out of my dad's arms and into my Memaw's. I'll never get enough of her hugs. All too soon though it was time to speak to my mother.
We were sitting on the porch outside, she had fixed me a nice southern glass of sweet iced tea. (Did I ever say she lives in Texas... she does) "Just tell me about this boy and we can move on," she said trying to sound like she was hitting down to business.
Deep breath, ok. "You actually know him," I paused and saw her raise an eyebrow. That's my que, "It's uh... it's Cameron."
My mother smiled, "I know. I'm not stupid, Matt also mutters to himself. I had my suspicions though anyway." She is surprisingly calm. I waited, she still didn't lecture me about anything. She always has a lecture up her sleeve. Alright then... if that's it.
The night continued. Still nothing. We ate dinner watched some movies and I went to sleep in my old room. Morning came, still nothing. As I went to leave nothing... "I'm so confused." I laughed as I drove home. Ok then.
