Cameron pulled me up onto the counter to watch him cook. I figured now was as good a time as any to voice my worries, "C-Cam? Why... why don't I have an inner wolf? You have Kaigen and I... it's just me." I barely whispered. By the end of my awkward inquiry I was ready to beat my head against a wall, there are probably more important things to ask than that!
He picked up the bowl that he'd been using to mix the pancake batter and set it next to me on the counter. He continued to cook as he answered my question, completely unfazed by how weird it was. "If I had to guess, it would be because I bit you. The same reason it hurt so much more for you to shift," a shudder ran through his body as he remembered the night, "You're body wasn't born as a wolf. It's not in your genes to have on inner wolf or to be one at all," he said as he continued to make the pancakes, occasionally looking up at me.
I wasn't physically equipped to be a wolf. It hurt so much because I wasn't meant to. I was gonna be in pain every time I decided to shift.
'No, no, no. It'll get better I promise. The first is always the worst but eventually it'll be second nature, you won't even feel it,' Kaigen attempted to soothe my thoughts.
It helped a little, but how certain could I be? He didn't know I wouldn't have a wolf, how can he be sure it'll hurt less? I let out a tired sigh, way too much is going on right now for me.
Not too long later all the food was done and Cam set the food on the table. I restrained myself from sprinting to the table like some barbarian, but what can I say, he makes good food. I sat down with as much grace as I could manage, trying desperately not to drool on the plate in front of me.
"Dig in," God's precious gift to world's voice ripped me out of my trance.
I didn't need to be told twice, I threw three warm pancakes onto my plate, slapped some butter on them, and smothered them in syrup. I dug in like an animal, practically gorging myself in the deliciousness.
A moan escaped my pancake stuffed mouth. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as I munched away. I finished my plate a lot sooner than I want to admit. Sweet Jesus! I looked up to see Complete still had a whole other pancake left. "You gonna eat that?" I asked innocently.
Cam awkwardly looked from me to his food, and I could see the internal battle going on. It was obvious he still wanted it. He gave me a lingering look, then a longer one back at his plate, "... I guess not..." he muttered as he pushed his plate to me.
A grin swept across my face, he still wanted the food though, so I shook my head and gave it back to him. He paused for a moment staring at the food before he grinned and finished. He leaned back and rubbed his belly appreciatively, "I should've gone to culinary," he sighed.
                              "You're an idiot," I teased.
                              "Your idiot!" He declared.
I suddenly remembered that there were actual important things going on in my life. Things me and Cam need to talk about, "Cam, we-"
"Not today. We spend today together, happy. Tomorrow we can talk about crap stuff," he cut me off with his hands still on his stomach. He continued to smile contently.
I smiled and grabbed his plate, carrying it to the sink then strutting back to him. I leaned over the back of his chair and wrapped my arms around him; I have absolutely no problem with that.
