I looked over at Mari with a saddened gaze but forced a smile. Gripping her hand tighter we started off for her class to escort her there. As we both entered practically all the guys and girls stared directly at us with hateful looks.

"I'll pick you back up after class." I said before darting out the door to get to my own class. As I walked in Mr. Wells cleared his throat loudly to grab my attention.

"Ms. Stoll, as you may know already your school work comes first..." He said roughly turning back to his computer. Before anything else could be said I hurried to sit down at my desk and turned to face Lara.

"Tough day ahead of us huh?" I asked with a smile. She scooted away from me without a response so I looked over to Devin who did the same thing. "Well ok, what crawled up your asses?" I asked with a sense of hostility in my voice. The two didn't answer me and instead turned to someone beside them and spoke to them rather then me. At a loss for words and sighed and faced foreword trying to actually focus on the lesson at hand. Mr. Wells spoke for a good thirty minutes before handing us a worksheet to do for homework. Just before the bell rang the guy in front of me blocked me from leaving the room and turned to me with a slight look of resentment.

"I can't believe you, Ava." He said before walking off without another word. Again I just exhaled deeply without another thought and left to pick Mari up from class. When I got there boys were gathered around her like usual.

"Is it true that you're going out with Ava?" One asked sadly. Mari smiled and nodded happily.

"I am going out with Ava. I'm sorry guys but I want to be with her..." She said just as she noticed me. "Here she is now! Sorry again, but I hope you guys will understand soon enough." Mari said just as she latched herself to my arm.

"Having a hard time?" I asked concernedly. Mari stopped walking and pressed her head onto my shoulder.

"Yes, but I can handle it. After all I don't want this love to be the one that got away." She said. I grinned happily and kissed her lightly on her cheek just as we passed a few of her followers. They rushed off in the opposite direction without a second thought and soon we were the only ones in the hallway. I hurried to drop Mari off at her class again and then left for mine. The rest of the classes just flew on by and then it was time for lunch. I went to go pick Mari up from her class to go to lunch when I noticed that Devin and Lara were talking with her.

"Look, just stay away from our Ava. This isn't going to last that long anyways and you know it Mari." Lara said in disgust. Mari groaned and then looked at the two of them with animosity.

"Think whatever you want to, but Ava and I do love each other very much. This isn't just a phase, that I can assure you. I understand fully that you were  her bestfriends but that doesn't give you the right to oppose us." Mari said. I rushed in and got between the three of them and frowned.

"I can't believe you two would act this way towards Mari." I said. "It's distasteful and disrespectful to the both of us. I would've thought if you guys were truly my friends you would've supported us." I stated holding back my tears once again.

"I'm sorry but we can't do this anymore, Ava." Lara said sadly. She reached up and touched my cheek. "Devin and I have been in love with you for the longest time. Now you get with her  only after knowing her for a few days! It was already hard for us considering that you never looked at either one of us like that but now you have someone who we can't compete against!" Lara shouted. Devin didn't say anything and walked off leaving Lara, Mari, and I to ourselves. I hugged Lara and apologized.

"I'm sorry, but I can never see you two in that way. This may mean that we can't go back to the way we were before, but please talk to me every now and then at least." I begged. Lara looked back up at me with her mascara running down her face.

"I can't do that, Ava. I'm sorry but I just can't." She said before she too ran off. I turned back to Mari and smiled faintly.

"It's ok. Don't worry we will find people who will accept us, I promise you." I said before reaching for her hand and walking down to lunch with her.
