"Good luck getting those cows away from them," said Nancy and Sluggo's manager to the guards, as Nancy and Sluggo performed their new tiptoe ballet "Tiptoe Thru The Barnyard" at the Bovinian Center for the Arts. The manager later wrote in his diary: The crowd swelled toward the podium and I stood on tiptoe, peering between Elsie and Elmer, who were visiting from the US. Sluggo stopped tiptoeing suddenly, standing in a small spotlight in the middle of the stage, and stared into the crowd. I expected to feel his presence oppressively, but instead, in that small space, I registered him as the ideal representative of the joy of tiptoeing. I'd always been an admirer of Nancy's tiptoeing, but now I appreciated Sluggo's tiptoeing even more.
