Just Say Sorry

Chapter 21

"Take those files and hand them to Mr.Richards," Alec said to the secretary and she nodded and was about to leave. "Oh and, tell me when my father-" He paused. "When Mr.Lightwood is here." He corrected himself.

The young female nodded again smiling, then finally left the office.

Alec concentrated on the pile of papers in front of him again, dwelling in his work for another long hour.

He glanced at his fancy watch to check the time, 1:20pm.

"Isn't Mr.Lightwood here yet ?" Alec asked the secretary on the other line of the phone.

"He arrived half an hour earlier but he asked me to not let anyone into his office." She answered.

Alec hung up the phone and stood up heading to his father's office.

"Mr.Lightwood insisted that I won't let anyone in," Chris' secretary said when Alec entered her small office.

Alec heard shouting coming from Chris' office. "Get out," He turned to the secretary.

"I'm afraid I can't without Mr.Lightwood's-"

"I said get out," Alec repeated, his tone severe which made her immediately leave her desk.

He stood close behind the door trying to understand what his father is saying.

"I told you there's no way I'm doing that, don't even dare to repeat that again !" Chris shouted, his voice full rage.

There was a short break then Alec heard his father say, "Are you threatening me ? Do you know who I am ? I can destroy you and your whole company in an hour. You don't want to get in trouble with me. I'm definitely the last person you don't want to be on your side." His voice was lower this time.

A silence fell over the place for a short moment, "No no this is not possible." Chris said, his voice panicked.

Alec fought himself to not walk in the office, he put his hand on the doorknob and waited. "You can't do this !" Chris raised his voice.

Alec heard footsteps from behind the door and was about to back away when he heard the sound of something heavy collapsing with the ground.

He rushed in only to see his father laying on the ground with his phone a few feet away from him. Alec froze in his place for a second trying to comprehend the situation. He quickly then kneeled down beside Chris who was fighting for a breath.

Some employees rushed into the room and they assured Alec that they called in ambulance and it'll arrive in any minute. But as calm as he tried to remain, his hands wouldn't stop shaking and so did his whole body.

"Hi, I'm sorry is Alec in his office ?" Lydia asked Alec's secretary.

Alec wasn't answering Lydia's calls so she decided to stop by the Lightwood's company since she wasn't very far from there.

The secretary looked up her eyes full of sadness then said, "Um, Miss.Martin, no he's not here. He's um-" She looked down.

Lydia frowned, "He's what ?"

"He went to the hospital." Lydia's heart dropped at her sentence.

"What ? Why ? What happened ? Is he okay ?" She asked all at once, panicked.

"No no he's okay. It's his father, he had a heart attack."

At that statement, Lydia rushed out of the office and quickly climbed down the stairs, taking two at once. She climbed in Alec's car since she walked to the company and the secretary said that Alec wouldn't mind if she took his car since he went to the hospital with his father, in the ambulance.
