A/N: This is a sad imagine. Read on your own warning.

fate n. something that unavoidably befalls a person

Martin and you have been a couple for 6 years, last year you married. When you found out that you are going to become parents, all your dreams came true.
Martin and you have been dreaming of getting a baby for a long time, now there are less than five months left until the waiting is finally going to come to an end.

Your POV:
"Goodbye, Mrs. Garritsen. Have a nice day.", the young medical assistant greets you as you open the door to leave the doctor's practice.
"Goodbye, Mrs. Scholten.", you smile politely and leave the building.
You take a deep breath in relief, you're overwhelmed with emotions to see your baby on the ultrasonic scan, it's incredible how fast your child is growing.
With the scan in your hand you walk to your car and unlock it, as the radio starts playing you start the engine and begin your drive home.

Martin's POV:
"I think two interviews aren't enough for his stay in New York. He should promote his song and not do holidays there.", Michael speaks his opinion.
"But we also have two TV appearances, where he'll play his song. This is totally enough.", José counters.
"I also think that these four things aren't enough. Didn't we get three more interview requests?"
While listening to my management's discussion, I suddenly feel my mobile phone vibrating. Trying to pay attention to the discussion I take my phone out of my pocket and unlock it to find a message of Y/N.
Y: "I am going to do some grocery shopping, do you have any wishes for dinner?"
M: "No thanks. How was the appointment? Is everything okay?", I text back and lock my screen again.
Only some seconds later I feel my phone vibrating again, quickly I unlock my phone and open Y/N's and my chat to find a scan of our baby. Seeing the picture makes me smile, he's grown so much within six weeks.
"Wow he's growing so fast. I am sorry that I couldn't go with you today. I promise you next time I'll be there with you and hold your hand.", I write and send it.
"Martijn, are you listening?", Watse's voice tears me out of my thoughts about Y/N and our baby.
"Uhm sorry, can you repeat the question?", I say locking my phone.
"Are you okay with it, if we do two more interviews and stay in the US for one more day?"
"Uhm yeah, sure.", I simply reply throwing a glance at my phone, Y/N hasn't texted me back yet.
"So if we all are okay with this we can stay one day longer.", José concludes.
"Okay, now we can relax. Who wants champagne?", Watse asks after we have talked about all upcoming shows.
"Give it to us all. We have to celebrate.", José smiles.
"We are the best team, drinking the whole time.", Michael states, making José laugh.

While José and Michael laugh about Watse, who is struggling to open the bottle, I look at Y/N's and my chat. Blue ticks tell me that she read my message, but there is no reply, what is kind of unusual to me.
Y/N always replies to my messages unless she's mad at me.
"Hey Martijn, what's wrong?", José wonders giving me a glass of champagne.
"Uhm nothing.", I simply answer and take the glass. My worries are surely for nothing.
"You are thinking about Y/N, right?"
"How do you know?"
"I've known you for more than ten years now, of course I know what you're thinking about."
"Do you want to see the scan of my baby? Y/N just sent it to me.", I smile and proudly show her the picture of my unborn babyboy.
"Awww, I already can imagine that he will just look like you. See, we have a reason to celebrate, you're going to be a daddy.", she says excited and clinks glasses with me.

The bottle of champagne is empty within some minutes, gradually we all start feeling more relaxed and we are laughing about the most pointless things.
While Michael is telling us a funny story the sound of a ringing mobile phone interrupts the amusing mood, immediately I know it's mine.
Motioning my team to be quiet I take my phone to find Y/N calling.
"Hey darling, what's up?", I answer the call.
"Hello, am I talking to Martijn Garritsen?", a male voice makes my drunk thoughts vanish.
"Yes?", I answer confused, why is a man talking on Y/N's phone?
"Mr. Garritsen, I am doctor Hendriks. Unfortunately I have to tell you that your wife had a car accident. She isn't seriously injured, but we diagnosed internal hemorrhage. She is in surgery now, don't worry we are doing our best.", the man tries to say as calm as possible, but it feels like my whole world is falling apart.
"How...how is the baby?", even though I try to hide the shock, my voice breaks in the middle of my question. In the corner of my eye I catch Watse, José and Michael staring at me blankly.
"The baby is fine, your wife had luck. Besides the bleeding she only has a slight concussion and some scratches. The surgery shouldn't take too long, you can of course come to the hospital.", he explains and it immediately takes a load off my mind.
"I'll be there as soon as possible. Please take care of my family.", I beg him and end the call.
Frantically I grab my jacket and put it on.
"Martijn, what's wrong? What happened?", Watse wonders.
"Y/N had a car accident. I have to go.", I try to catch my breath while searching my car keys.
"Is she alright? And the baby?", José asks worried.
"The doctor said that she had luck and that they are fine. I need to go to her anyway." Thousands of thoughts are flooding my brain, that I can't think clearly anymore.
"Sure, calm down. They'll be fine.", José tries to calm me down and gives me my car keys, which were placed on the table in front of my eyes. I turn around to look at José, who gives me a comforting smile. For a while I just close my eyes and take deep breaths, I need to be there for Y/N now.

"I have to go, sorry guys.", I excuse after opening my eyes again.
"Martijn, please be careful. And text me when you know more.", José says and pulls me in a quick hug.
"I will, thank you José.", I promise her and leave.
I promised to be there for her and take care of her. This was my vow when we married.

Your POV:
A numb yet unbearable pain slowly awakes you from a deep sleep. Your body feels incredibly sore, even the try of opening your eyes feels so hard. Light blinds your vision as your eyes flutter open for the first time, so you squint them for a while again.
Every now and then you try to open your eyes, it takes you some time until your vision assumes shape. Once you manage to keep your eyes open you scan your surrounding. White covers are keeping your body warm, an IV is connected to your arm, this is the moment you realize you are in a hospital and slowly all memories come back to your mind.
A loud crash is the last thing you can remember, panic rises in you as you understand what happened.
You had a car accident.

"Y/N? Do you hear me?", a soft voice fills your ears, the comforting, familiar sound slowly takes your panic away. You raise your gaze, following the sound to find Martin sitting on a chair next to your bed.
"Martijn, I had an accident. I wanted to text you back and then everything happened so fast.", you whisper in shock, your heart at a rate you could have never imagined that exists.
"Shhh, take a deep breath.", he hushes you bringing his hand to your face, his warm fingers brush some strands of your hair away. Closing your eyes you try to calm yourself.
"Are you in pain?", Martin asks caressing your cheek carefully.
"A little bit.", you answer.
Silence takes over for a while, you keep your eyes closed, trying to forget about the pain.
Suddenly a thought tears you out of your rest, just the question makes your heart rate double again.
"Martijn, our baby! Is he alright?", you ask scared.
Your question remains unanswered, an uncomfortable silence ruling the room.
Reassuring yourself, that your baby is fine you raise your gaze again to look at Martin, wanting him to a give you an answer.
"Martijn?", you aspirate.
You expect Martin to respond you, but all he does is looking at you with a blank expression. Normally you could tell, if he is happy or sad, but this time it feels like you are looking into dead eyes.
"Martijn, babe. Please tell me that everything is alright.", you smile at him, but his facial expression remains the same.
Tears already welling in your eyes you try to convince yourself, that your babyboy is fine.
"Mrs. Garritsen, do you hear me?", a male voice makes you open your eyes again to find a doctor standing in front of you.
"Mister, please tell me that my son is okay.", you beg him wiping the few tears away, that roll your cheeks down.
"Mrs. Garritsen, I am so sorry, but during the surgery there were complications. We did everything in our power, but we couldn't save your unborn child. I am deeply sorry.", he speaks regretful lowering his head.
"No, no...please don't tell me-...", you try finishing your sentence, but everything takes over you and you break down crying.
"My sincerest condolences, Mrs. Garritsen. This is a hard time for every parent, you will of course get psychological help from us. We have good psychologists, they will help you in this situation.", he informs you.
You try to listen to his words, but it feels like you are falling into a deep dark hole.
"Thank you, doctor Hendriks.", you hear Martin answering.
You want to tell so many things, but all you do is cry. Unbearable pain spreads in your chest, making it hard for you to breath.
Never you would have thought that there exists a pain that hurts so much.

A warm hug slowly starts numbing the anguish, your sobs gradually start to fade away as you inhale Martin's cologne you like so much.
"Shhhh...I am here.", Martin whispers holding you close to him.
"I lost our child.", your conclusion sounds like a confused question.
"It's not your fault, darling. We will make this together. I promise you."
