~after Hermione meets Canis, Harry and Ron, and Malfoy tries to make friends with them~
I was sitting quietly, reading a potions book in the corner of the compartment while Harry and Ron gorged themselves on cauldron cakes, chocolate frogs, Bertie botts every flavored beans and other odd candies I had eaten a couple of things but not being used to eating sweets I instantly started to not feel well. Malfoy had stopped by to try and make friends with Harry but only ended up getting bitten and a girl I quite liked named Hermione Granger had stopped by to ask about a boys frog she knew a lot about magic even though she was muggle born.
Harry and Ron were now talking about houses at Hogwarts, I already knew about the houses and didn't care where I went as long as I was with Harry so I could protect him and I said as much when Ron asked me which house I wanted to be in, he looked at me as if I had two heads and said "you! protect him!? Your smaller then scabbers!" I chuckled dryly and said "funny that's what I thought about your brain, When you tried to turn the rat yellow. You call that magic."
I took out my wand and waved it at the lazy rat, Starting from its nose and ending at its tail the rats fur and skin slowly turned Yellow and then it slowly faded back to its original color. As I put my wand away I said "you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover Ron, many mistakes are made when you do such things." I slipped my wand back in its holder and returned to my potions book, ignoring the stunned look from Ron.
When we got close to Hogwarts we all went and changed into our robes, I made sure Harry's were right, not caring about mine since no matter what I did I would still looked emaciated. When the train finally got to the station, we got off, leaving our stuff behind. Hagrid was leading the first years to the school so we followed him to a small fleet of boats. Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville got into one boat and I was forced to ride with Draco and and his friends as we started the journey towards Hogwarts.

We were in a long line in front of all of Hogwarts and I could tell Harry was scared he never did like to be the center of attention. Finally his name was called and I slightly pushed him towards the stool and watched carefully as he put the hat on and sat down. It took a minute before the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!" I smiled softly as he nervously walked towards the table, he had gotten the loudest applause yet. then my name was called, I could feel everyone's astonished and horror filled eyes watching me, I knew I looked as though I hadn't eaten anything for years but it didn't bother me. As I made my way to the stool, i scanned my surroundings making sure no threats were nearby, we may be in a school with powerful enchantments but that didn't mean I would let my guard down, I made sure only one thought was on my mind as I sat down 'please, put me in Gryffindor with Harry!' I lowered the hat onto my head as I sat on the chair, it fell far lower then it did on anyone else, almost covering my whole face.
A voice spoke into my mind 'you are very brave and selfless, extremely smart as well though all your thoughts are centered around your brother.... you want to be in Gryffindor with him but you'd do amazingly in Slytherin... hmm well I suppose I'll put you in...' "GRYFFINDOR!" I quickly thanked the hat before getting up, setting it back on the stool and hurrying to sit next to Harry. For the rest of the feast I was pushed to eat until I felt I would burst by nearly headless Nick, which Made it to where I had to leave near the end of the feast since I felt extremely sick. Professor McGonagall took me to the sick Ward, I was given a potion to help settle my stomach and digest the food I ate before I was warned only to eat as much as I could without hurting myself and being sent to bed.

The next day Harry and Ron were late for professor McGonagall's class and she gave them a good talking to. The objective for the class was to change a match stick into a needle. Hermione managed to almost do it and the professor seemed amazed when I easily did it without saying a word, she didn't believe I'd actually done it at first until I was given another match and did it while she watched. I tried to explain it but the best I could do was say that I had simply imagined it happening with all my focus on the match. The next class I spent watching professor Quirrell closely, ever since we'd meet him at the pub I hadn't trusted him, He was up to something I just didn't know what, I didn't think anyone should smell that awful and I was overcome by a feeling of danger when I looked at him.
Our last class was potions, which I was actually excited for seeing as how the spell part of magic came easy for me I hoped potions would be a challenge. As soon as we walked in we were given seats I was partnered with Malfoy which I didn't exactly like but I didn't hate it either, I instantly noticed professor Snape seemed to hate Harry but for some reason I could not get myself to hate him for it, they're was something in me that looked up to professor Snape for some reason. Snape almost immediately started to question Harry, I couldn't help but notice the sadness and hatred hidden deep in his cold unfeeling eyes as he looked at Harry which turned to overwhelming pain when he looked at me.
He asked me if I knew the answer to his questions and I couldn't help but feel pleased with myself as I answered "actually, yes I do professor, if you added powdered root of Asphodel to an infusion of wormwood you'd make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the draught of living dead. A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. As for monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite." They're was a flash of surprise in his eyes before he said "well, why aren't you all copying what Mrs. Potter said?" The noise of Everyone rummaging for quills and parchment filled the room. Over the noise, Snape said "and a point will be taken from Gryffindor house for your cheek, Mr. Potter."
Snape took another point from Gryffindor later in the lesson after Neville's failed attempt at making his potion and blaming Harry for not correcting him. Though everyone else seemed to hate potions I found I quite enjoyed it, the exact art of potion making was something I couldn't just will to be right like I could with spells and I found class quite relaxing, I even managed to have a pleasant conversation with Malfoy.
The next few days went slow but I was good at all of my classes because I'd made it a point to read up on everything before coming to Hogwarts plus magic seemed to come easily to me for some reason, I simply willed my magic to work as silly as it sounds.
I hadn't eaten until I was uncomfortable since the first feast though I did still eat plenty, I'd also been slightly less protective of Harry since school started though I was still extremely wary of professor Quirrell and if anyone started to Bully Harry I was fully ready to threaten and/or punish them with hexes.
This morning Ron and Harry had managed to get to breakfast without getting lost for the first time and I teased them about it before talk turned to the classes for the day. When the mail came Harry got a letter from Hagrid inviting us for tea and I also got a note but it wasn't from Hagrid, it simply said.
Canis,
What is your favorite color?
Signed,
Your secret admirerAmused and curious I decided to answer my "secret admirer", I took out a quill that I always keep with me and flipped the parchment over before writing:
Secret admirer,
My favorite color is dark red, may I know your favorite color?
Sincerely,
C.B.PThen I gave the note back to the owl and it left. Ron and Harry seemed to be curious about what the note said but I refused to answer any of they're questions, instead I turned to my breakfast and quickly finished before leaving for class.
It'd only been a week but I already looked better then I had when we first came to Hogwarts, my cheeks were no longer sunken in and I'd had a few people comment that I looked much healthier. I waved towards a few people who passed in the hallway, and tried to ignore the feeling of being watched and the grey eyes that followed me as I made my way towards professor flitwicks class.
