Chapter 10: My fault

Chapter 10

Peeta's P.O.V.

Katniss tells the others that she's feeling sick and need to get some air.

But I feel it's obvious that she wants to get away from me, now more then ever before.

Ever since the accident with our hands, she hasn't looked me in the eyes. Not one time.

I mean, before she could still look me in the eyes. With hatred and disgust of course, but that I could handle. Now when she does look at me, it's with hurt. And that I can not handle very well.

"Peet?"

Cato snaps his finger in front of my face.

"Huh?" I say, returning to reality.

"Go. And. Tell. Kit!" Gale says slow and nods his head at every word.

This Saturday I told the guys, meaning Cato, Finnick, Marvel and Gale, why I'm really being an ass towards Katniss.

First they flipped when. They yelled at me, not more then I deserve really, actually I deserve way more yelling then I got.

But then they got happy and exited, because then they understood that I don't actually hate Katniss, and they do understand my intentions with acting how I've been acting, even though they don't like how I've been doing it.

"I can't tell her, she'll flip!" I hiss.

"Then go and just talk to her, try to make friends with her again", Cato says and gives me a push forward.

"I hate you guys", I say.

"We love you too Peet", Finnick grins and waves as they leave me.

I sigh. Now they expect me to talk to Katniss, and I need to do that because they can ask Katniss if I talked to her, so I don't really have a choice here.

I walk into the corridor Katniss went into.

Then I hear a scream, someone screaming something.

"Yes. I know. You're right!"

It's Katniss yelling that. Who is she yelling at, and why? About what?!

I walk towards the place I heard the yelling but then I hear a slap I think. What happens?

I come up to a place where I see a group of girls.

Katniss is in the middle. They don't seem to see me.

"No one wants you anyway, wouldn't it be better to just ... Disappear?" Delly asks Katniss in an evilish voice.

I can see the answer in Katniss eyes. I can see what she wants to answer.

Is it because of me?

Even though we haven't really spoken this past seven years, I still know her like an open book.

Don't say it Kit. Please don't say it.

"Yes it would", Katniss sighs.

I hold the tears away with a big effort. She actually admits that it would be better if she was dead.

No Kit!

Delly grabs Katniss hair an knocks her onto her knees and then she throws Katniss head into the wall and I can hear a loud crack sound.

Katniss fall to the ground.

Now I run up. I should've done that earlier.

I see Katniss eyes flutter as I run up to her.

"Katniss!" I yell.

I throw myself on the floor beside Katniss. It flows blood from her skull. It's cracked.

I stand up and look at Delly. I've never been this angry I think.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! YOU MAYBE KILLED HER YOU WHORE!" I roar.

I turn towards Katniss again, and carry her up in my arms.

Now my tears flows down my eyes. What if Katniss dies? Then it will be all my fault. I should've talked to her earlier. Or maybe I shouldn't have protected her this way, I thought it was the best but maybe it wasn't.

Oh what am I gonna do?

I run to the nurse. She can call an ambulance.

And so I run the fastest I can with Katniss in my arms.

People are looking at me and at Katniss when I run past them. But I don't care. I only care about Katniss.

But then I see the others.

"Clove! Hey Annie, Finnick!" I scream and the whole group turns to see me.

"KATNISS!" Clove roars and runs up to me.

I stop.

"What the hell happened?" Marvel asks.

It still flows blood out if Katniss head, and I'm all bloody as well now.

I explain everything.

"I'm gonna murder that whore!" Clove yells.

Now some teachers runs up to us.

They freak and call the ambulance.

As we wait on it, the principal comes running.

Plutarch Heavensbee. Katniss stepfather.

"Katniss! Oh my god! Mellark what happened?!" He yells all panicked.

I refuse to let go of Katniss, so I still have her in my arms.

I explain everything for him. And he says that he's personally gonna check the school cameras.

Now the ambulance comes.

They pull Katniss away from me and I start to panic.

They can't take her away from me. I already lost her one time. I do not want lose her again.

I do not. And I'm not going to!
