Chapter 19: Friends again

Chapter 19

Katniss P.O.V.

I can't believe that Peeta's mother beats him. I mean why?

Peeta said that she's not happy with Peeta being a boy, she wanted a daughter. And once she finally got a daughter, she wants to throw her down a cliff. Who would do that?

I'm sitting on a swing with little Kaia in my arms. She's the cutest baby I've seen in my life. She's so much alike Peeta and his brothers.

I still can't forgive Peeta for turning he's back towards me when we were younger. I just can't. He hasn't given me a reason, so why should I forgive him?

Glimmer is devastated. I am too. The other girls as well, even Johanna. But we haven't broken down as Glimmer. We don't show our emotions as Glimmer does.

"Babe, calm down", Cato says and wrap his arms around Glimmer.

"But it's just so sad", she says.

"No I'm used to it, I'm just worried about Kaia", Peeta says and looks at me and Kaia. "I mean she has Downs and mom hates like it, she's going to hear so much shit from mom, I just hope that she listens more to me, dad, Sebastian and Fredrick".

"Yeah, and I wouldn't really be surprised if mom actually tried throwing Kaia off a cliff to be honest", Sebastian says.

My eyes widen and I hug Kaia tighter. She laughs and plays with my hair.

"She wouldn't dare!" I hiss, covering Kaia's small ears. "She wouldn't!"

"She would!" Not only Peeta and Sebastian says, but also Finnick, Gale, Cato and Marvel.

My eyes widen. What? She would actually do that? She would actually throw her own daughter off a cliff?

"My mom pushed me down the stairs one time, when we were seven, remember I came with a plastered leg to school?" Peeta says.

Oh yeah. I do remember. I mean I decorated that plaster. I wrote our names, I painted flowers, I put on glittery stickers. Yeah basically I made it all girly. Peeta got irritated about it, but he also laughed. The people in school didn't tease him even if they wanted to, because even in lower school we were the most popular group. Yeah I was a part of the group at first, then I left when we were ten because Peeta turned his back towards me. Then as the years passed and I avoided them, I kind of forgot them for a while, especially the boys. That was stupid. But hey, I remember them now.

"Yeah I do remember that, I made your plaster all glittery, pink and girly, remember?" I say.

"Oh yeah..." Peeta laughs. "Yeah that was before I..."

Peeta interrupts himself.

"Yeah, before you turned your back towards me", I fill in for him.

He looks at me. He looks me in my eyes for the first time since we were ten.

"I'm sorry", he says.

We look at each other.

"Oh wow look at the time!" Sebastian bursts making me jump. "I need to be at the bakery now, Peeta take Kaia home later, will yah?"

"Um yeah, okay", Peeta says.

"Yeah I think we have to go as well", Clove says, pulling Marvel up on his feet.

It ends with everyone leaving me with Peeta and Kaia.

What the hell? The guys weren't even suppose to meet us today, and now they have plans? What?

Peeta stands up and then sits down at the swing beside me.

We're quiet for a while. And it's an awkward silence. The air is thick of awkwardness.
