"She's what?" Vic whispered yelled as Owen say with his head in his hands. Vic turned to Amelia.
"Did you know about this?" Amelia nodded and shoved her hands into her long hoodie pouch pocket hybrid.
"We've been talking about it for a month. She doesn't think she'll be able to handle it. More than that, she thinks a family that's desperate for a child, that's older will do a better job." Vic started to storm down the hallway.
"Where are you going?" Amelia called after her.
"To get Nola and season one of Gilmore Girls." Vic replied without turning around.
"Vic, wait." Amelia ordered and on instinct Vic did. Amelia walked towards her like a bomb ready to explode.
"We both know that girl can take on the world, but she's scared. Give her some more time with that baby." Amelia told her. Vic's bottom lip trembled and Amelia swept her into a hug.
To them, this had been the shining light at the end of a very long, very dark tunnel. This was the chance for something good and whole and beautiful to come out of something anything but. This little girl was going to prove nurture over nature, or at least, that was the plan.
When Nola arrived she ran straight over to Owen. He stood up hearing her approach and she wrapped her arms around him in joy.
"Tell me everything! I can't believe I missed it! Stupid family bonding day. I can't believe that little twit couldn't have waited." Owen smirked they both knew Nola wasn't pissed, simply disappointed.
"Her water broke and she didn't tell anyone." Nola shook her head slowly, completely perplexed.
"So, what then?" Owen bend his head forward and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I noticed she was missing and I went to look for her. She was in the girl's bathrooms." Nola's eyes widened in glee.
"Oh my God you were so worried you went into the GIRL'S BATHROOMS!" Nola was screeching with joy as she looked at Owen's embarrassed face. "You guys are so married!" Owen's eyes widened and Nola started smirking.
"You do realise we're not married right. I have a girlfriend." Nola scrunched up her face and Owen couldn't help but smirk.
"Ugh, no offence but Ruby is a terrible human being." Owen raised an eyebrow at her and was surprised when he couldn't make himself argue otherwise.
"Excuse me. You haven't even met her." He replied, trying to add anger and snark into his voice, but failing. Nola just rolled her eyes.
"Well both you and Sarah are blind."
"What do you mean?" He asked, genuinely interested.
"I've been listening to Sarah, for almost three years, tell me about how she makes this huge effort to be nice to Ruby. She planned conversations before she saw her. She found out what she liked and researched so that Ruby might just like her. She told me about how Ruby glared at her, how she tried to ignore it but it hurt her. I had to hold onto my girl when for the past month Ruby's been happily chattering away at her about the brilliance of sex. How awesome it makes her feel which, while props to you, is not exactly the right conversation to have with a victim of rape." Nola stared down at Owen and he swallowed hard.
"Has Sarah told you she's going to give the baby up for adoption." Nola nodded sadly and huffed as she crossed her arms.
"She's been thinking of giving up Bubs since Barcelona. She didn't think she'd ever be able to handle it. She didn't think she was right for that baby, if she could never find the words to defend Bubs." Owen took a step back, unable to properly fill his lungs with oxygen.
