***Jordan's POV***
"Check mate!" I yell as I beat Grayson at chess. He has grown attached to me and he spends almost everyday with me. It's like he's my father, which makes me remember about what happened before I met Carmen. Suddenly I begin to have a flash back .
My sister and I were both werewolves and we belonged to a very small pack but after I was born my parents died saving the beta. Thanks to our parents, the beta had to adopt Jasmine and I and take care of us. It seems like life would be great, except for the beta hated us. He said we took away his youth, even though he was already thirty-nine and still had no mate.
Living with him was awful, he was barely there but when he was, he was either mean, or drunk and mean. I remember one night in extreme detail, when I was about twelve, he hit my sister for no reason. Wwhen he went to bed, I told her that we should run away. It took time convincing her but finally she agreed and we ran and found an old abondand cottage far away.
The flashback changed to when I was in the cottage with my older sister, Jasmine and I we were eating dinner. "This is so good!" I compliment her soup. She giggles as I finish my bowl. "Thanks Jordan." She says sarcastically, becuase I like all of her cooking. There was an awkward silence as she looks out of the old house window. "Mom and Dad would be proud of you." I tell her, scraping the inside of my wooden bowl. She doesn't turn to me, but I can tell she shed a tear. "Yea," She responds. The summer night air was thick and humid, I was barely able to breathe through it. It made me wish that Jasmine and I had a real home to stay in, with air conditioning. But with all that she had taught me I knew that family is the best home that you will have, and Jasmine was my family. "It's getting late, as soon as you finish eating you need to-" A horrifying shriek stopped her mid sentence. It was the scream of an woman, and by the sound of it she was being hurt. The scream went from ear shattering to completley silent in all of about ten seconds. Then there was a loud howl, one of a wolf. There was a series of screams just like the woman's and we heard the barking of wolves. I don't think Jasmine knew what was going on, but she knew it wasn't safe. She and I shifted and ran into the woods. Up ahead, Jasmine saw a small inch of light, so far away that it could have just been a firefly. We ran for it, until a wolf pounced on her from the trees and bit her throat. I made the mistake of stopping from running and howled for her. But once the wolf stopped attacking her, her body was sprawled on the ground, barely moving. "Go, I will be okay." She panted through the pain and blood gushing from everywhere. I nod and turn to follow her orders. Then the wolf tried to attack me too, but I was a fast runner. He couldn't catch up but he was close enough to bite at my leg. And so he did, I almost fell but I knew if I did it would be over for me so I continued to run to the light. Eventually I realized that even if I got to the source of the light, it would still be too late.
I ran and limped at the same time, crying over the fire that was spreading all around my left hine leg. I lost energy and began slowing down, when suddenly another wolf came out of the trees and attacked the one behind me. I didn't bother to look back until I heard whimpering, and then silence. I stopped running to see the wolf who had saved me had killed the other wolf. Get out of my woods. The wolf growled at me. I nodded and ran. As I got closer to the light, I realized that it wasn't just a house, it was a mansion.
Now out of energy I slowly crawled to the door and scratched at it, hoping for someone to open it. That of course, is when Carmen came to my rescue. Landon came back a bit later and I realized that he was the wolf that saved me. I haven't brought up that night since I have lived with Carmen, but I cannot say I haven't thought about it endlessly. I haven't seen Jasmine since that horrible day, I don't even know if she is alive.
"Kid?" Grayson yells as I snap out of my flashback. "Huh, what?" I say shaking my head and bringing myself back to reality. "You've been out of it today. What's up?" Grayson asks, frowning. 'Don't tell that guy anything. He's the enemy.' My wolf orders. "I kinda feel bad about what I did to Blazing Night." I lie. "They got what the deserved. Don't sweat it." Grayson says resetting the chess board.
