Landon's POV

I chomped through another throat, blood splattering in my face as the wolf under me let out a horrifying whine. Every time I tried to feel bad, I kept remembering that this was the pack who wanted to take my mate from me. The anger made me hungry for more blood, as if this was some sort of video game. In an instant, I tackled down another wolf who tried to sneak up on me. I pant as I run through the forests trying to find Grayson, when suddenly I hear a voice in my head. 'The luna and her mother have left the group.' It says. I stop so abruptly at those words that I take a few steps to regain my balance. My mate, had made it to one of our groups and ran off with her mother before I had a chance to get to her. Where would she be going with her mother? I knew the answer to that, and I knew I had to hurry to keep it from happening.

'I'm on it.' I respond, almost growling out of frustration. Why can't Carmen ever just go along with things. I sprint at full speed, dodging trees and rocks as I run. I was practically desperate to get my mate before she did something stupid. When I stopped running, I was no longer alone. I heard a voice from ahead of me.

"I'm telling you, killing me would be a mistake." Grayson says, his back pressed against a tree as he sat on the ground, panting. Suddenly a girl pounces forward and jabs him in the nose, so hard it throws his head into the tree. He grunts as blood begins to trickle out of his nose. I slipped back behind a tree, knowing my mate meant business. I had to intervene but I needed to know more, before I could jump in. "My daughter isn't very patient as you can see. So I will ask you again, where is my husband?" Mrs. Ruth says, the gun in her hand at her side as her body trimmers.

The corners of Grayson's mouth tilt upward as he looks down at his lap. He chuckled silently, his hair sticking to his forehead with sweat. He mumbles before being kicked in the mouth. "Speak up!" Carmen yells at him. Her face was sweaty and red, her eyes puffy and red. I longed to run out from behind the tree and hold her in my arms, telling her that everything would be okay. I flinch, as if debating on whether or not to move from my hiding place.

"He's dead!" Grayson yells so loudly his head shakes and his face turns red. He struggles under the weight of the rope biding him to the tree. Grayson takes shallow, frustrated breaths as Carmen and Mrs. Ruth stare wide eyed at him. "He tried to betray our pack and I couldn't let that happen. Could I, Cassadee?" He says. "You seem to know a lot about betrayal. Sending your daughter to our enemies Alpha, so they could have sex and late night chats. I would've had you killed first of you weren't so protected." Mrs. Ruth drops her gun to the ground, with a black expression on her face. Carmen sobs, rather loudly.

I couldn't let anyone do that to her. Without thinking, I jumped from my tree and tackled Grayson, so hard the ropes cut away. I looked at him one last time, into his ugly, horrified eyes. Then I chomped down on his entire neck and squeezed together as tight as possible while he hollered in pain. I yanked and pulled at his throat like a chew toy until the yelling finally stopped. A pool of blood surrounded Grayson's head and throat while I took a step back to admire my work. I spit on Grayson before turning to my mate and her mother.

At that point, Carmen ran to me and knelt to the ground, clinging to me as if I would disappear in thin air if she didn't hold tight enough. I wanted to shift and hold her with my own hands, but I didn't want her to see the monster I felt like. I just killed a man out of cold blood, and what will that cost my pack as a whole? Being with Carmen brings out a side of me that doesn't think and just does, but I cant be a reckless alpha. I growl and borrow my head in between her neck and shoulders. Meanwhile, Mrs. Ruth walks into the shadowed forest until she could no longer be seen.

Everything around me goes quiet until my beautiful princess falls asleep, leaning against my back. I listen to heart beat and her steady breathing until Jered and Ryann emerge from the woods in human form, both pretty bent up. Ryann holds a pile of clothes draped over her arm and Jered's hands are empty swaying at his waist as he walks. He kneels to my mate and secures her in his arms before lifting her from the ground. I growl at the thought of having another man touching the woman that belongs to only me, but then I relax, knowing that he was my best friend and he was only trying to help me out. Ryann swiftly walks toward me, setting the clothes down in front of me and starting to walk away. Suddenly her eyes lock on the dead man behind me and go wide.

"Landon." She starts, but I cut her off with a growl and an intimidating step forward. She ignores me and taps Jered's shoulder, causing him to turn around and see what she saw. "Dude, is that Grayson?" He mutters to himself in awe. Carmen's hair hangs down like vines tangling into each other. Her body is relaxed, unworried and peaceful, I love seeing her that way. I couldn't help but smile as I thought of times that she was carefree and happy. The memories caused me to relax and shift into human form unintentionally.

I quickly grabbed the clothes and dressed myself as my friends looked away, used to it. "What happened?" Jered asked, sounding both disappointed and confused. I stood up straight and clenched my teeth at the sight of Grayson purposely making Carmen hurt. "He, he harassed her." I say, summarizing the event in my eyes. Jered opens his mouth as if to say something and I cut him off. "What would you do if he told Taylor her mother was a traitor and that he killed her father?" I say, turning the tables and getting his attention. He looks down to Carmen's sleeping face, then to me, then Ryann before sighing.

"We will need to discuss this, but we should go home first." He says, starting to walk back they came, my mate swaying in his arms.

"There's a war going on." I say sternly. "We cant just go home." Ryann looks to me in a strange way. "Its over, we won." She says, putting a hand on my back. We won, what does that mean? In order to be victorious, we had to wipe out an entire pack. The packs that I hear about who kill hundreds of thousands of seemingly innocent werewolves and force survivors into the rouge life, we are now one of them. We were left with Moonstone no longer existing, and Blazing Night is currently a dominating pack.
