"No that won't work." I argue with a group of the pack's best fighters. "You're going to have to go around the mountain and wait for a spy to tell you where Grayson is." The map laid out on the table was clear as I pointed with my finger. "Whose the spy?" Someone asked. I shifted my hair to my shoulders and looked up. "Henry, big Henry." They all nodded and we went back to looking at the map. I pointed out one last thing, before excusing myself from the group to talk with Jered. "Is this really going to work?" He asked me. I nodded. "Yea. We just have to-" "No," He interupted. "I mean are we really going to be able to rescue Jordan and kill Grayson?" At this he caught my attention. "We aren't going to kill him. Even if we did, what good would it do?" I protest. As soon as Jered opens his mouth to argue, Landon walks through the doorway with an ace bandage on his left bicep. Jered excuses himself as Landon approached me. The room fell silent as everyone watched him limp.
He doesn't break his eye contact as he stands chest to chest with me. He gently put the back of his hand to my cheek, causing my heart to race. He moved his lips to my ear and whispered, his warm breath tickling my face. "My sister would like a word with you." He says. Landon steps backward and noticed everyone around him. He took one look back at me, then stormed away. Everyone turned their attention to me as if to see what I would do next. I grabbed a map and followed after Landon, the awkward tension not going away until I walk through the doorway of Landon's office in my home. I travel through the hallway and pass the living room and kitchen to the front door. Standing in front of Landon's car is a young woman who looks a bit older than me. I approach her slowly as she stands there silently.
"Can I help you?" I ask her as I put my hand on her shoulder. "I think I should be asking you that." She says turning around and smiling at me. "It's nice to finally meet my sister-in-law in person and not in a vision." She says staring me down. "You too. I think. Anyway, I, uh, have a map for you to explain our plan of attack." I say handing her the rolled up paper. She pushed it away and crossed her arms. "I already know your plan of attack. And I already know that it won't work. You're going to have to-" Just as she was talking, Landon burst out the front door. "Oh, there you are." He says walking closer to me and pecking my lips. He then procedes to wrap his arm around my side and pull me closer as his sister stands there awkwardly.
"You were never a descreet person." She laughs. "Oh how rude of me, I haven't even formally introduced myself. I am Alaina Jacobs. I am not usually talked about because I am gifted. People think I am a soceress or a witch because of my abilities. I think so too." She says, tears welling in her eyes. She looked just like Landon is every way. Her beautiful blue eyes, her flowling blonde hair. Her skin complection matched his perfectly. "She can see the future." Landon whispers into my ear. I look at him skeptically before Alaina talks again. "I have to go. You're going to have to make a decision today, Carmen. Think about it before you choose." She says. "What's the decision?" I ask, turning toward her. Before I can pull away from Landon, Alaina is gone and all she left was the map. The trees rustle with the summer breeze and a creepy chill rushes through me.
"Landon, what did she tell you while you were gone?" I ask him, cupping his face in my hands. "Nothing. Why?" He responds with a concerned look on his face. He puts his hands around my waist and pulls me close. I though about his question for a moment before answering. "Are you sure?" I ask again. He nods before lowering his head to kiss me. I kiss him back passionately, almost forgetting about my current worries, but the kiss doesn't last long and my mind is quickly clouded again after he pulls away. "What's wrong?" He asks. "Nothing." I lie, unable to look into his eyes. I wish I could tell him, but he would freak out and try to send me to boarding school again.
He pushed my hair out of my face and walked back inside, leaving me with an aching heart. If I was right about what I thought the choice was, things were going to get really bad before I would had to choose. I walked over to his car and leaned against the passanger door. The summer sun beat down on me as sweat slowly emerged and sparkled on my face. Just beside me sat a small bumble bee crawling around the car hood. I could hear the little bug, buzzing away as it crawled around, exploring the surface. It fluttered away in fright as I reached out to touch it.
