***Landon's POV***
I walk around the same tree four or five times before I spray a scent masker that smells much like silver. If that doesn't throw them off, nothing will. I tell myself as I throw the empty can into the bushes. I have to admit what I just did was incredibly stupid. My pack is on high alert, and I sneak in to mark my mate. Yeah that seems like it makes since, but what can I say? I really needed to see her again, feel her again, smell her again, taste her again. And that's what I got.
The smell of silver was so strong that I could barely walk straight. I eventually make my way back to Alaina's cottage just as the sun rises. She greets me on the front porch with a coffee cup in her hand. "I need to tell you what you've just caused." She says, handing me the pipin' hot cup. I sip on it, realizing it's coffee, and step inside.
We sit by on her small living room sofa as she speaks to me. "I knew you were going to do this, I knew that I, nor anyone else could've stopped you. The one thing about knowing whats going to happen before it happens is that you might not always like the future." She says to me as she blinks a mysterious tear away. "I will not tell you everything, but I will tell you that they know you are alive. They know you sneaked in, but they don't know where you are. Your mate will go absolutely insane just to find you and your entire plan will fall to pieces as everyone forgets their main focus." Her blue eyes staring deeply into mine as they seem to illuminate for a second, then fade back to normal.
She smooths out her red, night gown and crosses her legs in her terrifyingly, intimidating way. A shiver went down my spine as she rested her cold fingers on my knee cap, her eyes glistened with the rain of sadness as she continued. "It's amazing how strong love is. How it will make a person madder than a coo-coo clock that ticks backwards. It could even make a young clairvoyant see hope in her own future." Her voice trails off as she stares into deep space.
My sister is known to be a bit mysterious and creepy, she's considered a witch for crying out loud! But this was just sketchy. I sit my tea cup down on the old, wooden coffee table and stare at her. "What happend that hurt you so much?" The minute I asked that, I knew it was a mistake because despair and hatred are in her eyes as she turns her head to me. "It's not so much a what as it is a who." She replies in dispare. "But don't worry about me, I'm nothing important." She says, shaking the sadness from her voice. "But the enemy will get an unpredictable advantage."
I growled as Alaina turned away. I don't regret a single thing that I did. I needed to see Belle and being with her again made me want all of her right then. I forgot the entire reason that I had gone down there anyway, which was to talk to Jered. But if Carmen is the leader right now, will she stop thinking clearly?
I excuse myself from the room to go sit outside. I replay last night over and over again in my head, all the way up to walking out the door. Carmen had seemed so much different since the last time I had said goodbye. Of course I only loved her more but it would take some getting used to.
'Whelp, things have gone to crap.' A voice says in my head. I recognize the voice as Jordan's as I quickly look through his eyes to find him staring at silver bars barricading him in. There are two large men on either side of the bars, facing away from Jordan. 'What happened?' I ask him. 'Word got around somehow that Carmen is your mate.' He thinks to me.
I clench my fists tightly and growl as I imagine them hurting her. It had been really hard all summer to keep her a secret, even though everyone in the pack knew that her dad was from the Moonstone pack. Thats why her mom told him that she was still with Cameron. Mrs. Ruth gave her to me so that she could be safe. She would finish school here and we could start a family.
I knew what I had to now. I had to kidnap Belle before the Moonstone pack had a chance. I had no plan, nobody did, but I had to protect my mate.
