"Oh my God, I'm starving." I complain, rubbing my stomach after everyone leaves from the last meeting. I throw my wavy brown hair out of my face and get up from the living room couch. "You've been eating a lot lately Carm. Tell me you're not pregnant!" Taylor smiles as she goes to find something to cook in the kitchen. I chuckle at the thought. "How'd you know?" I say using sarcasm, as I rolled my eyes. It has been at least a week since Landon's death, and I realized that I have to move on, no matter how much it hurts.
"Whatever." She mumbles as she puts a pot of noodles on the stove. "Spagetti sound good, Luna?" Taylor asks. I nod as the front door slams open. Ryann bursts in holding a large packet of papers. "You're gonna need to read through this." She says in a frustrated tone, throwing the stack on the kitchen counter and rushing her hands through her blonde hair. "Whoa, who pissed you off?" I mumble to myself. "Sorry, the guys have been making me run all their errands today!" She shouts, pounding her fist on the counter. I wanted to help her out, but the whole pack has been working their butt's off on high alert. "Here," I say taking a can of soda out of the fridge and handing it to her. She pops the tab and begins chugging it down.
"Thirsty much?" Taylor laughs as she adds seasoning into the steamy pot. Ryann finishes off the can and squishes it when she's done, letting out massive burp that probably startled half the city. We both take a seat at the bar and talk while Taylor finishes the spagetti. "It smells great!" I say taking a deep breath of the steamy noodles mixed with fresh tamato sauce. "Haha, thanks." Taylor says filling a plate with it and sliding it in front of me. She hands me the fork, and almost instantaniosuly I gobble down every noodle, scraping the plate for any extra. Taylor and Ryann stare at me wide eyed at me as I lick red sauce from my lips. "What?" I say shrugging my shoulders and getting up to get a second serving.
"Are you sure you're not pregnant?" Taylor smiles, as she takes my seat on the bar stool. "I'm not, okay?" I mumble loudly with a mouthful of spaghetti. I wanted to tell her that it was because I was part wolf, but that wouldn't end well. I shouldn't be a half wolf, I should be dead techancially. Luckily Wolfia and her eagerness saved my life, but at what costs? Will I only do more bad than good?
Taylor and Ryann laugh at me while I continue to gorge down pasta. "Ugh," Taylor groans, looking at her watch. "I gotta go patrol the borders." She gets up from the bar and goes out the door, as we say goodbye. "So, school's starting back next month." Ryann says grabbing her own plate of spaghetti.
"Oh no!" I yell, face palming myself. "I forgot all about school!" She takes a bite of spaghetti as she goes to get another soda from the fridge. "What are you gonna do?" She asks after politely swallowing her forkful of food. I thought about that for a while, deciding if I should stay or go back to Rockford as a senior.
Finally I just shrug my shoulders and put my empty plate in the sink. "Well I'm not going anywhere until Jered comes back with your brother so, maybe I can help you with some luna stuff." Ryann says, popping the tab on her second soda and slowly sipping on it this time. "All I have is papers to read, phone calls to make and more meetings to schedule about the papers and phone calls." I tell her.
Being Luna was a lot of work that I didn't wanna handle. I'm not meant to be responsible, I am reckless and stupid, so who made me leader? Just as I think that to myself, the front door swings open and Jered enters with two things that I didn't want to deal with: one being more papers, and the other being Cameron.
"Good news! Your brother's jaw has healed enough for him to talk!" Jered says, pretending to be excited. I laugh and roll my eyes as Jered puffs out his large chest and throws the papers on top of Ryann's previous stack. "S'not like he's staying here." I say turning away, trying desperately to push Landon to the dark recesses of my mind. "Actually we are on such high lock down that nobody is getting in or out no matter what." Jered says, taking the seat between me and Ryann at the bar. I stared at Jered feeling both angry and scared, wishing he hadn't just told me that my brother would most likely be staying here until school started back.
