"Wake up!" Someone says, pushing my shoulder gently with their foot. I snap out of my dreamless sleep as I lay on the the cold, hard cave floor. My eyes peak open to the bright daylight that gave me a headache. "Leave me alone." I groan as I refuse to wake up. The nudging stops for a brief moment until I am greeted by a gallon of icy cold water crushing my face and soaking my hair. I sit up, frantically spitting and choking while my hair sticks to my forehead, eyes and cheeks. "What the heck?!" I cough. My dark brown hair blocks me from being able to open my eyes and I have to pull it back. Ethan hovers over me holding am empty metal canteen. "I don't usually have to deal with lazy guests." He says as he heads back out of the cave. "Get ready to go." He orders before he leaves. I look around the damp cave. 'Get ready with what?' Wolfia asks as I find a pair of jean shorts and a guys t-shirt. After a few alterations, I manage to make the clothes look like they fit by tying the of the shirt with my hair tie and stealing a belt from Ethan's backpack.
However shoes seemed to have been a major problem. My feet were already scarred and cut from walking barefoot through the woods and the heels would not work out very well. I wring out my soaked, cold hair and observe the hazel ends glowing as I step outside and into the sun. I find Ethan not far away stalking a raven. Ethan actually manages to throw a dagger into the tree and hit the bird right in the heart. It falls dead from the tree and he runs to scoop it up. He removes the knife and starts skinning the poor bird. "That's horrible!" I torment him, coming out of my spying spot. My fingers cling to the locket around my neck as I see Ethan in mid chop. He doesn't even acknowledge me.
"Where are your shoes?" He asks, taking a glimpse at me. I fold my arms and shift all my weight to one leg. "Sorry I didn't bring extra clothes." I say sarcastically. Ethan pulls a lighter from his pocket and I take a cautious step back. He lights a pile of wood beside him and puts the bird on a stick. Carefully, he roasts the bird by rotating the stick in every which way. I watched spectated the entire time he cooked the animal until finally when the meat was dark enough to him, he hands me the stick . "I'm not eating this ." I tell him. After watching the horrific fate of that innocent birdy, I'm not sure if I will ever eat meat again. My stomach was jumping around trying to escape my body and I had to hold back my puke.
"You'll eat if your hungry." He counters me. I don't move an inch. He shrugs and sinks his teeth into the side of the brown bird meat. I turn away and cover my mouth as I hear him chewing on it. Finally he gulps loudly and smacks his lips. "What's your problem?" I shout, turning back to him. "It's called survival, honey." He says poking my nose with a mouthful of bird. I slap his hand away and continue yelling. "That bird didn't do anything to you! How could you even be related to someone as sweet and loving as Ryann?!" I shout. He swallows and starts arguing back. "Well that description of her certainly doesn't fit the Ryann that I know."
"I can't believe you even expected me to believe that she would help you kill twenty people!" I shout so loudly that I hear my voice echo through the woods. Birds fly from the trees and disappear above the clouds. All of the sudden, Wolfia begins growling fiercely. 'Don't you feel that?' She asks me in a suspicious voice. "We aren't safe here." Ethan reads my mind, er, Wolfia's mind.
Ethan and I run back to the cave after putting the fire out. He shoves everything into his pack, leaving nothing but the candle. He gives me his book bag to put on and I jump on his back. "I still can't get over how light you are." He whispers to me. I keep my distance from him as much as possible, yet try to protect my feet.
I unwrap my arms from his neck and snatch my legs from his hips. "I will walk." I tell him. "We might go faster." He stares at me, then begins to walk again. I follow close behind him, my feet painfully jabbing twigs and rocks with each step. We eventually reach the main road and soon I figure out where I am. Now its my turn to lead us as we walk on the side of the road. Not long after a yellow mustang comes into view and I quickly flail my arms to get the drivers attention. It pulls over in front of us and a young woman with a wide figure and brown hair steps out. "Luna? Luna!" She cries, running towards me. She hugs me tightly and pulls back to take a look at me. "Everyone's been looking for you! We were so worried when you didn't show up at the banquet!" She says tampering with my hair. I politely push her hands away feeling the girl's soft, pale skin.
