Something I've really enjoyed doing is Reddit's various gift exchanges, or Secret Santas. If I have time, I always try to include some art or something hand-made. So when Reddit had an Animal Crossing exchange, I just knew I had to do something cute. Most of the participants ended up hand-making at least one thing for that particular exchange.Pattern
My Giftee mentioned that their favorite character was always Tom Nook. While I like to joke around about him being Satan as much as the next AC fan, I don't actually dislike him. I enjoyed the way they sort of wove his backstory through Sable in Wild World. Fun fact: My little sister was the one to realize you could befriend Sable. She was so stubborn about getting to be her friend that she talked to her every day, whereas I didn't see any point. After that, the ability to build relationships with the NPCs became one of my favorite aspects of the game.
Cutting the Felt
The only stitch I really know is the blanket stitch, which is actually great for those cute semi-flat felt plushies. I hot-glued most of his features to the front of him first, and added some extra detail stitching on some of it, like his mask and his belly. In the future I would make him a bit bigger to make that process easier.
Finished Nook and Pre-Assembled Bell Bag
While my limited knowledge of sewing meant my bell bag wasn't a true bag and more of a wallet or a flat pouch, I wanted to include one anyway. I want to learn more about sewing in the future. I finished assembling Nook by sewing most of the plush closed, using a wire to shove cotton into all of his nooks and crannies (lol), and then finished sewing him closed. His little arms proved to be difficult.
Success!!
My gift was well-received and got some upvotes and rewards. The only commenter says that they love the plushie, too. This is actually my favorite part of gift exchanges... Seeing the happy reaction of my giftee. I'm currently in the process of two exchanges and can't wait to get the art I'm including finished so I can share it here!
What's the best handmade gift you've ever received?
