(This is a digital art thing rather than traditional.)

So I recently decided to try doing something that tons of people do in the speedpaint videos I watch. There's usually a few parts where you see them flip their canvas around and tweak some things. I never quite understood why. But recently, I was bored and doodled a favorite character of mine in a small notebook. I thought the turnout was decent, so I took a picture of it to trace over and finish digitally. The character looked OKAY, but something seemed off. It wasn't something I could put my finger on, though.

That's when I flipped the canvas.

Flipping the canvas, as it turns out, exposes flaws and makes them obvious. If your drawing is properly symmetrical, it will look that way from both sides. If you reverse it and it suddenly seems like one shoulder is way too low or too large, or that one eye is thinner, then that should be fixed!

So just flip the canvas, and then fix the details that look wrong. Then, flip it back. I guarantee that it will look much better.

As proof, here's my drawing before the flip. It's a screenshot directly from the process, so you can still see the lines of the paper and my notes on what needs to be fixed.

And here he is after I flipped the canvas and fixed the awkward proportions! I had also finished the whole lineart by then, so I could delete the lined paper layer underneath it as well as my notes
