As soon as I took the last step and my feet hit the ground, I felt a hand grab my arm and roughly pull me back. I practically stumbled into a chest. Warm, hard, chest. No doubt it was Zach."What happened button? Did I hurt you? Fuck, you're okay right?" He hurriedly scrutinized my face for something. His posture was rigid and his blue, twinkling eyes were filled with concern. I shook my head, flicking his forehead, making him sigh in relief.
"Why did you run off like that?" He murmured against my head, his tone more soft and less urgent. I reluctantly pulled away from his warm embrace and shot him the best smile I could manage. I was right. He truly is my drug, and I was completely and utterly addicted.
"Zach..." I trailed off. I needed to tell him. I needed to get this off of my chest.
"Yeah?" He spoke warily, eyeing my every action.
I shifted nervously on my spot. "I-I um... I think- no! I know that-"
"That?" He urged on, taking a step closer. I hastily took a step back. Him being close to me is not going to help, it's just going to make it worse.
"I... like you." I breathed out, squeezing my eyes shut. I waited for him to turn around and stomp out of my house, I waited for him to shout at me, scream at me, heck! Maybe even hit me, but nothing came.
I frowned, popping an eye open. He had the biggest and brightest smile plastered across his face, his eyes were pooling with happiness and for some strange reason, that made me happy. I shot him a wobbly smile despite the fact that my heart was beating faster than anything.
"I know." He spoke, grinning broadly.
He did?
"You did?" I was shocked. Maybe he had some magical powers. Oh! Maybe he was like batman or something. No! Batman can't read people's mind. Maybe he was- stop! Adrian! Take a deep breath.
"I was just waiting for you to realise. I mean, the kisses we shared weren't anything you know. Friends don't kiss like that. Bestfriends even. Button, you like me and you wanna know what?"
"What?"
"I like you too."
He does?
"You do?"
"I do."
"Who's getting married?" Jake walked out of the living room and frowned at us.
"Married?!" My mum shrieked, sprinting form the kitchen and staring at Zach and I, wide eyed.
"No!" I yelled, exactly the same time Zach said. "Not yet."
I flicked Zach's forehead. "Hey! I never even swore!" Zach complained, rubbing his forehead.
I grinned. "Yeah but you almost gave my mum a heart attack." Both of our eyes trailed over to my mother who's eyes were rolling to the back of her head.
My eyes widened. "Mum! I'm not getting married, for goodness sake!" I yelled.
She nodded lazily. "Figured. I'm going to go lay down."
I snickered quietly. "You do that."
She strolled up the stairs and out of eye sight. You can see where I get my dramatic side from.
"Well, that was interesting." Jake yawned. "I'm off to go play GTA. Can't keep Franklin waiting. Or maybe I should play Michael, I don't really play him much. Or Trevor- nah! Allow Trevor, he's one crazy motherfucker, let's stick with Franklin." With that, he strolled up the stairs, leaving me gobsmacked.
