That night, lying in bed in Adams spare room, sleep eluded me.
My lids were so heavy I was worried they'd fall off, but I still couldn't sleep.
Figures I thought, rolling over to my side.
In the silence I heard a silent melody.
Adam.
I got up and crept down the hallway, my bare feet making quiet slapping noises on the cold floor.
When I got to the piano, I saw Adam sitting on the bench, pressing the keys and singing along.
Close your tired eyes
Relax and then
Count from one to ten
And open them
All these heavy thoughts
Will try to weigh you down
But not this time
Way up in the air
You're finally free
And you can stay up there
Right next to me
All this gravity
Will try to pull you down
But not this time
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Tonight
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
There was a twang of keys and Adam whirled around, his eyes wide.
When he saw me his shoulders slumped.
"You scared me," he said in an exhaled breath.
Brighter than a shooting star
I continued with a smile, gesturing for him to do the same.
After a second he joined in, singing and playing the piano.
Shine no matter where you are
Tonight
Gaze into my eyes
When the fire starts
And fan the flames so hot
It melts our hearts
Oh the pourin' rain will try to put it out
But not this time
Let your colours burn
And brightly burst
Into a million sparks
That all disperse
And illuminate a world
That'll try to bring you down
But not this time
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Tonight
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are
Tonight
A thousand heartbeats beat in time
It makes this dark planet come alive
So when the lights flicker out tonight
You've gotta shiiiiiiiiiine
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Tonight
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
Whoooooo
Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are
Tonight
When we finished singing Adam had somehow migrated from his piano to right in front of me.
I was looking into the two brown orbs of his eyes when he pressed his lips to mine.
It was a gentle kiss, but it held so much meaning.
And I wished it would never end.
