Chapter 17-
Aubbrie's POV:
"She doesn't remember us Kaleb. I told you somehting bad will happen."I said preparing Aubbrie's favoruite meal, maybe this would help her.
"Aubbrie you heard the doctor. It's just temporary. There is a chance she might saw something to remember us." He said standing across the counter. I sighed as I cut her sandwhich in two triangles. I poured her a glass of blood and laid a bag of chips on the plate.
"Kaleb she is all we have...I am ruined Kaleb. I physically can't have children anymore." When I gave birth to Avril. Three years later Kaleb and I were going to have another child when the doctor said my ...insides were ruined and couldn't hold a child and that it woud never happen.
"You just have to hope for the best. Andre is the best doctor...he specializes in every creature. He will help her and we can help her to." He promised rubbing my back.
"I hope so." I sighed grabbing the plate. I brought it to the infirmary where Avril sat on her bed staring at her charm bracelet. We gave her that for her birthday last year.
"Wait." I hissed quietly putting my hand on his chest and holding him back. We looked in as she stared down. She clipped it off and stared at it intently. She sighed clearly confused and clipped it back on running a hand through her hair. I smiled to myself and let my hand float back to the plate, at least she was trying.
I walked in and set the plate down while she fiddled with the hem of her fresh jeans.
"Here, sweetheart eat something it will make you feel better. And drink this. Your throat must be hurting." I said in a calm voice to not startle her. She looked up and smiled. My eyes trailed up to hers.
"Oh my God!" I said startled. I put my hands up to cover my mouth. Her left eye was pure red. No pupil...nothing just a red oval shaped eye.
"I see you noticed her eye. I have been doing research while you were gone." Andre said coming over with a clip board and pen.
"Mmmm...my favourite...thank you...." She said searching for a name she stared squinting her eyes at me. She was thinking and her eyes opened up.
"Aubbrie. That's right. Aubbrie and Kaleb." She nodded finishing one side of her sandwhich. I sighed in relief at least she knew our names.
"See? Even meals bring back some memory. Anyways, when she was bitten that demon was intending to shift her. Well werewolf blood and demon blood are not compatible. A werewolf will die if they are turned into a demon and a demon will die if bitten by a werewolf. So the change was taking over and readying to kill her but luckily that small ounce of vampire gentics stopped the transformation but unfortunatley left some small marks. Well in this case a big mark. But she will be fine. Right now the eye is blurry, yes?" He said asking her as he opened her red eye and flashed a light in it. She didn't flinch or try to close the eye she just nodded finishing her sandwhich.
"Well the blurriness will clear up in a day or two and the eye will dim and some shape will come back to it by this I mean the pupil and such. But it will be red for the rest of her life...there is nothing I can do. I can bandage it and she can wear an eyepatch but the main thing is that she is alive. I checked on the marks. Everything is healed; stomach marks, arm marks everything is done. But this neck mark has not healed a bit. Have a few cups of blood and gain some strength and relax and that will speed up the process." He explained.
"Now. I shall go check on Marissa for her seventh month appoinment." He said leaving to go check on the first time mother. Avril opened her chips and began munching away. Once she was finished she downed the cup of blood and laid back.
She yawned and soon fell asleep which was good for Kaleb and I to talk somewhat privately.
"Remember what he said...she's lucky to be alive." Kaleb mumured rubbing my hand soothingly.
"People will make fun of her for it Kaleb."
"I doubt someone will make fun of Avril...a girl who plays boys lacrosse and hockey. And if someone really loves her they will look past that." He assured.
"It feels weird. She always knew me. Every morning she'd come down and get a muffin and protein shake. She'd kiss us goodbye. Come home either sweaty or happy. She'd make everyone laugh. Now your lucky if you can catch a glimpse at her."
"She's been through a lot. It will come back." He said kissing my hand.
"I have an idea. Wait here." I said getting up. I went upstairs to her room and snatched the green baby book from the top of her closet. I walked back downstairs and sat next to him.
"I haven't opened this thing since she was seven." I smiled opening the first page.
"Baby girl...six pounds and six ounces...born at four in the morning." I smiled flipping the page.
"Her first word was 'mommy's awake'. I remember that day. It was...a fun day." I laughed being sarcastic.
"It was a fun day." He chuckled.
"Her favourite movie was Transformers. She always watched it with me. Even to this day. Favourite colour is orange. Favourite food was chips and chicken odd combo. Her favourite book was those little Minnie Mouse books." I went on. Laughing at the old memories and the funny quirks she had. After a while I realized Kaleb was right...I was so grateful that she was just alive and not on life support. I'd rather know she's alive and well then sick and dying.
After a while I began to drift off and Kaleb and I went up to bed leaving the book beside her.
