I stood in front of the mirror in the servants quarters. It was always really dark in the servants quarters, and entirely made of stone. But it's home, apparently. Now I was 18 and I realized what Toph meant about prison.
My back aced from my whippings yesterday. "Are you okay Katara?" Toph said behind me.
I rubbed my shoulders with my hand and sighed closing my eyes. "Yeah." I opened my eyes to see my reflection again. My hair was half up in a top knot, and my eyes were a brilliant blue. Identical to my mothers. Her necklace still hung from my neck. I brushed it with my fingers. "I should get going." I picked up my bag which was laying on my bed. It still contained the leather book, that I have yet to open. Every time I take it out from under my bed I have every intention of reading it, but I always stop.
I placed the bag right back under my bed.
I walked up the long staircase like I do everyday. When I got to the top I saw the usual guard there, waiting for me. Everyday without fail.
"Today Fire Lady Ursa requests your presents." I nodded and walked down to Ursa's room.
When I got to her door I knocked lightly. "Come in." I walked in to see Lady Ursa having tea with Azula and Zuko. I could already see Zuko's face light up. And my stomach twisted at his smiling face. He had beautiful golden eyes, and today he wore FireNation armor. He was old enough to go to the war meetings, which meant he wore his armor. Which made his muscular body stand out more. Azula noticed Zuko and I's stare, she automatically smirked.
"Zuko, don't you have a date with Mai today." Azula said smugly. I don't know why she keeps doing this! Just because I find Zuko attractive doesn't mean I like him!
Zuko broke his gaze and shook his head. "Oh, yeah. Um, I should probably go do that." He said awkwardly and stood up. I walked to Ursa's side while Zuko walked out.
"Aren't Zuko and Mai so cute Katara?" Azula leaned on me with her arm. Her eyes stare daggers at me. And oddly they really did hurt.
"Yeah, they are." I said quietly, I could hear Ursa sigh.
"Azula could you please go back to your room, Ty Lee is waiting." Ursa put a hand on her forehead. Azula scoffed and ran off.
"Katara, could you help me? I'm not feeling very well." Ursa placed her hands on her temples. She was very pale.
"What hurts?" I guided Ursa to her bed.
"My head, and- an-" she fell back on her pillow. I grabbed her hand.
"It's okay, I'll get you some soup." I started to walk off.
"Thank you Katara." I heard Ursa say quietly. I nodded and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me.
"Such a pity, I guess." I turned quickly to see Azula standing near the door.
"What?" I said clinching my fists. I don't know what she has against! What have I ever done to her!
"Mai and Zuko. Jeez catch up Katara." She rolled her eyes. Azula held her hand in front of her face, pretending to inspect her nails.
"No, not a pity, I think it's cute. Fake, but cute. I know you set the whole thing up." I crossed my arms.
She gasped as if to look surprised. "I would never! It's not like I was the one who told Zuko to ask her out." She raised her eye brows.
I broke my anger for split second, showing hurt. She has a point. Then I pulled myself together again. "Awe, the poor servant can't get the prince." She faked.
I grunted and walked down the halls.
Ugh! She is so infuriating!
I kept walking around the palace. When I came upon a weird noise. What is that?
I peeked around the corner to see a full blown make-out, starring Mai and Zuko.
If you asked me if was hurt, I would say no. But then I would say I always lie.
I ignored them and went down to the kitchen. I bumped into Toph, who was the manager of the chefs. Mainly because she's 'good with people' or whatever.
"And what do I owe this lovely visit sweetness?" She laughed and bounced off the counter.
"The Fire Lady is sick, and I wish to bring her soup." Toph snapped her fingers.
"Right up!" She turned to one of her chefs and told me to wait outside. So I sat outside the double doors and waited.
After a minute or two I heard footsteps. Expecting it to be the chef I turned.
Only to find Zuko.
I frowned. You.
"Hey Katara." He smiled. His hair was all messed up and he had a lipstick smudge on the Side of his face.
I growled and crossed my arms.
"Zuko." I bowed slightly.
"Um. What are you doing here?" I raised one eye brow and pointed to my lips to tell him he had something on his face. He jumped a little and tried rubbing the smudge off.
He laughed awkwardly.
The doors of the kitchen opened and I was presented a small bowel of soup. "Thank you." I whispered and walked back the way I came. Zuko tried to reach out for my arm but I walked to fast.
"Oh, it's okay, I'll see you later." His head dropped and his shoulders slumped. I kept walking, ignoring him in every way.
ZKZKZKZKZKZKZKZKZKKZKZ
I walked back into the Fire Lady's room with the bowel of soup. "Your majesty." I put the soup next to her. But I realized she was asleep so I just left.
I walked back to the servant quarters and stayed in my bed.
Toph, Suki and the other servants were out doing work and I was left alone.
I decided to take a shower, clear mind a little.
I walked in front of the mirror and pulled the water out of my hair. The curls now went to me hips. I sighed and put on my clothes and headed to me bed.
