Ivy's POV

"Why did I agree to this again?" I sat still, only flinching occasionally as Esther pulled on my hair to pull it back into a french braid.

"Because you had no choice. Now close your eyes," Kirstie said, holding up a palette and a brush. I sighed and did as I was told, deciding it was best not to question their motives anymore. I was going to this party whether I liked it or not, and honestly, I didn't.

Kirstie was already dressed up at a cat which was pretty expected from her, and Esther decided to take the Pocahontas idea for herself and run with it. My hair and makeup was soon done and they both took a few steps back to admire their work.

"Clothes are on the bed," Esther said as they walked out to leave me to change. I stared at the dirty and tattered clothes before my eyes returned to the mirror to take in the small patches of darkness Kirstie had put on my face. I looked dirty even though it was intentional.

I reluctantly got up and walked over to the bed, standing there for a good while just staring at the dirtied clothes. I didn't want to change. Correction, I didn't want to take the hoodie off. But I knew I didn't have a choice. They reminded me of that several times in the last 24 hours. I finally gathered up enough will power to change quickly so I couldn't talk myself out of it.

I had just finished slipping the fake guns into the holsters on my thighs when they walked back in, not bothering to knock. "You look perfect! Now come on or we'll be late," Kirstie said, a bit too chipper for my liking, but I didn't say anything. They pulled me down the stairs and out the door, barely giving me a chance to grab my phone.

Avi's POV

"Are you sure I should be doing this?"

"For the last time, you're worried about running into her. You won't. She's not coming. We haven't talked to her in months," Mitch said as he got out of the car and pulled me inside the large house. I couldn't help but relax when I saw how many people were already there.

Maybe I did need this. I adjusted the beanie on my head and easily found Scott and Kevin on the couch talking. I walked over and took a seat next to Kevin, gladly accepting the drink Scott offered me.

"Glad to see you actually decided to show," he said with a smirk, making sure I could hear him over the music.

"Hard not to when Mitch threatened to take away my food," I told him, forcing a laugh. "There's a lot of people here."

"Yeah. Karaoke tends to bring out more people. At least it's more girls for you to mingle with," Kevin said with a smirk, only earning a glare from me. "Sorry..."

"Have you seen Esther?" I asked curiously, furrowing my brows slightly.

"She said she got caught up with something but she'd be here soon," Scott said as he downed the rested of his drink and got up, probably to get a refill and find Mitch. Only a few minutes after he left, Kevin did the same, saying he was going to go have some fun. Hurtful.

I couldn't blame him though. I was forced to be here. I didn't want to be. "Now you can't go off trimming up and cutting your hair without telling me."

I gave a genuine laugh this time and turned to see Esther with her arms crossed and staring at me. "It's my costume. I'm the ghost of Avi's past," I said playfully, watching as she took a seat next to me.

"Change is good for you."

"Change doesn't take away memories."

She gave me a solemn look and I simply nodded. It seemed the house was packed now and the Karaoke had started. We stood up and walked towards the crowd forming, finding a good place to see. The least I could do was try to act like I was having a good time.
