Ivy's POV

I couldn't help but stare out the window of the car as Avi and I raced through red lights and stop signs, narrowly missing a pickup truck in the process. I had never seen him drive so recklessly, but I couldn't blame him. Something happened. We just didn't know what. All I know was I woke up to my phone ringing and Avi practically throwing me off him. He told me Kevin called him and Mitch was trying to call me because they were at the hospital, but that's all he knew.

Avi had barely turned the car off before we were both out and bolting toward the entrance of the hospital. I immediately spotted a small group and ran over. "...that's all we know for now. We'll let you know as soon as we know more," I heard the doctor say just before he walked away.

"What happened?" I asked as I looked around the group. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.... Ben, Kirst and Jeremy, Kevin, Avi and I, Mitch, Esther... "Where's Scott?" I asked, pretty much receiving my answer when Mitch broke out into loud sobs. I instantly pulled him into a tight hug, holding his head against my shoulder quietly.

I looked up to see Kevin, Esther, and Jeremy talking to someone I had never seen before even though he was in tears. I motioned for Kirstie to come over and handed Mitch over to her as I walked over. "Who is this?" I asked as I crossed my arms.

"He came to check on Scott. They had an accident. According to him, his brakes failed and he couldn't stop so he crashed into Scott going nearly fifty. He wasn't breathing when the EMT's got there but they managed to resuscitate him and got him here. They said he's in stable condition right now and they're running tests to see the extent of his injuries.," Jeremy explained. I don't know what it was that happened in my mind. I heard the story, and I knew that if it was true, he wasn't entirely at fault, but I couldn't comprehend that.

"YOU COULD HAVE KILLED HIM YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!!" I blindly launched myself at the stranger, only barely managing to get a loose grip on his jacket before I felt a pair of arms around me and pull me off. I kept thrashing, trying to get free so I could take out my frustrations on him, but the hold was too tight. "Let me go!" I yelled, stupidly hoping it would work.

"Calm down. Just relax. We don't need someone else getting hurt tonight."

My thrashing weakened as silent tears began streaming down my face. I finally stopped completely and dropped my face into my hands as I felt the grip loosen and spin me around, pulling me into a tight hug. "He's gonna be fine," Avi whispered in my hear as he attempted to sooth me by rubbing my back, though it didn't do much.

"I know this is my fault, but all I can say is I'm sorry. If I could go back and change it, I would, but I can't and now someone is hurt. I really do hope he recovers. I'd hate for the world to lose a rare talent." I could hear the sincerity in the man's voice, but I was still too much of a mess to answer. I settled for a small nod, never moving my head from Avi's chest.

"Don't worry about her. She'll be fine. She's just upset. You don't have to go if you don't want to. I'm sure Scott would like to know what happened when he wakes up," Avi said before pausing. "Wait, you know who he is?"

"Yeah. Pentatonix is like all my daughter talks about. She'll probably hate me after she finds this out though."

"I doubt it. If she does, it won't last forever."

I could hear the man's footsteps disappear the opposite direction of the door.

"Come on." Avi tenderly led me to the waiting room, almost as if he was afraid to touch me because he thought I might break. I wiped my eyes as we sat down on the small couch, and I immediately curled up against him, halfway burying my face into his jacket.
