Chapter 7- scars.

You know that feeling that you get when you know you are doing or going to do something wrong. That feeling that you get in your gut and the voice that keeps nagging at your brain screaming ‘Don’t do this, you know it is wrong’ ‘You are going to get in trouble’ but you just don’t listen. Ella knew she shouldn’t be close to a vamp-ire, her father told her countless times how dangerous and heartless vampires can be. He even made her promise to always be careful while talking to one but as Ella started at Johnathan with that sad smile filled with pain on his face she was convinced that her father couldn’t be more wrong. How can a person who cares about others and put them before himself be heartless and dangerous? It just didn’t make sense to her.

Johnathan’s breathing was getting slightly ragged as he sat up and turned his body fully towards Ella. No one knew about his scars except his brother and never would have he thought that he would tell someone else about them. He has been living for a long time and life taught him something, it taught him to not trust easily because people who he trust the most maybe the first one to hurt him in his weak moments. But he didn’t want to be scared so he went against what he promised to never do, he started trusting another person again hoping that this time he wouldn’t get hurt.

Johnathan crossed his arms each hand of his caught hold of hem of the black T-shirt he was wearing and slowly he raised the T-shirt from his torso and over his head before he threw it on the ground next to him. His 6-abs and also his muscular arms now in view but those weren’t the things that caught Ella’s attention nor the things that made her gasp in surprise.

What caught Ella’s attention were the scars that were scattered about Johnathan’s torso and arms, some of them still had blood oozing from them.

The left side of Johnathan’s stomach had an ugly looking purple bruise that looked quite painful. Ella’s eyes wandered up to Johnathan’s chest and she gasped in horror. Parts of the skin on his chest looked burnt as if someone had brought a burning stick and shoved it onto his chest.

“What happened to the skin of your chest?” she asked crawling closer to Johnathan who had his legs crossed.

“Vervain.” Johnathan said simply “One of the worst ways to torture a vampire it doesn’t kill us but it weakness, it hurts like hell and as you can see it leaves an ugly mark behind.”

“But I thought it heal quickly?” Ella said frowning.

“Yeah, that is true.” Johnathan nodded. “But the kind I was punished with it was spelled by a powerful witch in order to leave a permanent mark behind.” He explained his voice weak and drained of life. Ella scooted closer to him and sat on her knees in front of him slowly she extended her arm and touched the evidence of cruelty on his chest. Johnathan’s body tensed and he felt as if something was being withdrawing from him so in reaction he closed his eyes in pain a groan leaving his full lips. Ella quickly pulled her hand away from Johnathan’s body when she noticed his reaction to her touch.

“I am sorry I didn’t-“she began to apologize but Johnathan stopped her smiling friendly. “It is okay, I am just not used to people touching- hell even knowing about my scars.” He explained and wrapped his fingers around Ella’s wrist before gently placing it on the marks again. Ella hesitated before she let her fingers slide along Johnathan’s smooth skin and down to his stomach, till she touched the still bleeding scars. Johnathan felt the same strange feeling trailing behind the traces Ella’s fingers left. The feeling was almost relieving but still painful to Johnathan and he wanted nothing more than to ask Ella to never stop tracing his ugly scars.
