Chapter 6- Memories.

“I am sorry.” Johnathan said suddenly breaking Ella from her thoughts and she turned her face to look at him confused. Johnathan was rocking back and forth on the balls of his toes, his face was facing the ground and his hands were in-locked behind his back. “I tend to loss my temper from time to time, it is like a-“he hesitated in telling her the truth but he didn’t want to lie either. “Curse.” He finally said.

“A curse?” she repeated frowning. Johnathan nodded his head embarrassed.

“Yes… when I was ugh turned into a vampire that curse fell on me, I really can’t control it and I hate that I can’t. I really didn’t mean what I said yesterday.” He rushed the words out fearing they will get stuck in his throat. Ella’s quiet footsteps range in his ears before she stopped in front of him. Her father’s words rushed back in her mind, the night before the war when they were sitting together on her small bed.

‘No one is perfect, especially vampires’ her father had said

“Why daddy? They are beautiful and they get to live forever.’ She said, her father laughed a soft laugh and patted her head making her smile a toothless smile.

‘What is the interest in living forever when you don’t have anything to live for, no happiness, and no love? What is the advantage of looking beautiful when everyone thinks you are a monster and heartless.’ He replied and looked at his little girl.

‘People don’t smile because they are happy; they smile because they don’t want to let their pain show. Vampires are cursed each one with a different curse. Some get bad temper, some get no luck in finding love and some are so broken.’ He said and smiled at his baby girl.

Ella shook her head to clear it and placed her small thumb under Johnathan’s chin to lift up his face. Johnathan allowed her to raise his face up and his teary eyes locked with her comforting ones.

“It is okay, I understand.” She whispered and wrapped her arms around his shoulder bringing her body closer to his leaving a small gap between their bodies. A small kiss was placed to his cheek before her head rested against his slender shoulder at first Johnathan was too shocked to move but when he did he wrapped his arms around her tightly and brought her body closer to him closing the gap she left. His head got buried in the nape of her neck and he sniffed deeply.

“I am terribly sorry.” He said again.

Ella chuckled softly and nodded before breaking free from their embrace and stepped back. “So, How did you find this place?” Ella asked curiously

“I found this place in nineteen sixty while I was sneaking out of my owner’s house H-“he didn’t get to finish before Ella rudely interrupted him.

“Wait! Wait! Wait! You had an owner- you mean you were a slave?!” she asked not believing that a noble was once a slave. Johnathan nodded and sat down on the grass, Ella following suit a moment later.

“Yes, I was.” He confirmed “Anyway so he was out of town and I was bored sitting in the large mansion he owned, so I thought about sneaking out for a while. I mean what could go wrong right?” he scoffed. “I wandered around in the city for a while until I thought occurred to me. I thought maybe I could run away and go to another place where vampires aren’t treated like dogs, punished and whipped every passing second.” He said his hands balling into fists. “So I did I ran away and out of the city’s doors planning on never looking back. I found this place and I couldn’t be happier I stayed here for the night and I was so happy.” Johnathan said frowning as he looked around him.
