Pidge searched the crowd in earnest. "Do you see them?"

"No," Matt replied.

"Maybe we need to be higher up. Give me a boost?"

Matt crouched to allow Pidge to climb onto his shoulders for a better look at the crowd.

"Hey, guys. Whatcha doing?" They both started at Hunk's voice. Matt stumbled and the two came crashing down. Hunk dropped his tray of cookies to catch Pidge before she hit the floor. "Sorry about that guys." Hunk said, setting Pidge down before helping Matt to his feet.

"It's fine... Hunk, right?"

"Yep!" Hunk replied with a grin. "And you must be Matt. I've heard so much about you. It's nice to finally meet you, man!" He shook his hand.

"Likewise!" Matt said with a smile. "Hey, have you seen Keith or Lance about?"

"Oh, are they missing again?" Hunk stooped to clean up the mess of cookies.

"Again?" Matt turned to Pidge.

"Yeah," Pidge replied in a dull tone. "Again..."

Hunk straightened up after gathering the last of the cookies. "Lance and Keith have been disappearing a lot lately," Hunk explained to Matt. "They have the tendency to get themselves into trouble."

"Like near death kinda trouble. They almost died multiple times."

"We've lost count of how many."

"You were keeping tallies?" Matt asked.

"I was trying to prove a point to Lance. Of course that went over his head..."

Pidge sighed. "Why am I not surprised?"

"What about Keith?" Matt interjected. "He seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders.

"Well..." Pidge did the so-so gesture with her hand. "Yes and no."

"If Lance is involved, its closer to the 'no' side." Hunk replied.

"They're both idiots." Pidge said.

"But they're Voltron's idiots. Bless their souls." Hunk said fondly.

"It's almost hard to believe that we're supposed to be the galaxy's only hope."

"What about Shiro? He's a good leader, right?"

"Oh yeah, no doubt. He's a great leader." Hunk replied.

"If he ever goes missing, we're screwed," Pidge added.

"Pidge, don't say things like that. You don't want to jinx it."

"Hunk, I can assure you that there's no such thing as jinxes. It's just some silly superstition."

"I dunno..."

"Hunk, I could say that I'm gonna get electrocuted within the next twenty minutes and we all know that it could never happen."

"That's different."

"Is it?"

Matt turned back and forth between Hunk and Pidge before giving up on the conversation altogether. Their debate droned into background noise as he stepped away to scan the crowd.

Matt paused at the sight of a rather suspicious looking refugee with large golden eyes. He watched as they scanned the room before stepping onto the control platform.

"What...?" Matt muttered to himself, moving closer to the refugee who busied himself with the controls. The refugee pulled a small object out of his pocket and jammed it into the control panel. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!" Matt demanded.

"No one can win against the Galra. Our only option is to join them or die."

The alarm sounded, bathing them in flashing red lights. Chaos ensued with panicked refugees running every which way.

"You just gave away our position!" Matt exclaimed.

"I've done what I needed to do."

"They're going to come for us and you know they won't leave any survivors!"

"It's a small price to pay for the war."

"These are lives we're talking about! Innocent lives."

At this, the golden eyed refugee turned to glare at him. "Oh please! No one is innocent in war! It's time you learn that before you die." There was acid in his tone.

"Step away from the control panel!" A voice growled. They both turned to find Pidge with her bayard held at eye level. In that instant, Hunk grabbed the golden eyed refugee from behind. He struggled in Hunk's grip while Pidge jumped to the controls.

"There's nothing you can do." The refugee managed to say in Hunk's tight hold. "The Galra already know where we are." He smiled. "In fact, they should be here soon and they have some new weapons that they've been dying to test out."

Pidge's fingers flew across the controls. Her mind was working on overdrive to try to cancel the signal. Then, in desperation and uncertainty of what to do next, she gripped the foreign object and tried to pull it free. "Ouch!" Pidge's thumb shot to her mouth after she received a nasty shock from the mechanism's defenses.

"Careful, Katie." Matt grabbed her hand to pull her away from control panel.

"I'm fine. We have to find another way to stop them." Pidge turned to the refugee. "What new weapons are they testing?!" She demanded.

The golden eyed refugee smirked. "You'll just have to find out for yourself, now won't you?"

Pidge's scowl could have turned an entire army to stone. "What. Are. They. Testing?" She repeated coldly.

The refugee was unperturbed. Pidge wanted nothing more than to slap the smug grin off of his face. "Why don't you ask your little copy cat? I'm sure he has all the answers."
