 Chapter 10

Smoke Man

When I came around, all I could see was pitch black. I started crying. Was Jade ok? I needed to know.

"Fire?" asked a scared voice, "Is-is that you?"

"J-jade?" I asked cautiously.

I heard a scream and sobbing. The lights flickered on and my eyes stung as they adjusted to the sudden change. I tried to move but soon realized that my hands were tied on a wooden pole behind me. I scanned the room and caught sight of a gagged Jade.

"Jade!" I screamed.

A man appeared out of smoke and pulled my chin up so I faced his beady eyes. I spat at him and he slapped me. I used my magic to untie the ropes but the man pointed at me and I felt all my energy disappearing. I was helpless as he walked over to Jade creating a dagger out of smoke. Jade and I screamed as he stabbed Jade in the arms.

"Stop!" I cried, "Take me in her place!"

The man stopped suddenly and look at me. He laughed and the blade disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"I'm serious, let me heal Jade and cast a protection spell on her. Then you can kill me!" I shouted.

The man stoked his chin and clicked his fingers, releasing me from my bounds.

"Go ahead, but she's not worth it," waving me towards Jade.

I ran over to her and healed her. I pulled her gag off and stared into her scared eyes.

"You'll be Ok," I smiled bravely, "Don't worry about me. Because I have a secret,"

Jade just stared blankly and me and gave me a stiff hug.

"You don't have to do this!" she sobbed.

I just smiled.

"Enough!" shouted the man, "Come here and sit in front of me on your knees!"

I shuffled over towards the man and kneeled in front of him. He handed me the smoke blade.

"Now stab your heart! If you don't do it properly I'll finish you off," he snarled, "Don't forget your last words."

I took a deep breath and spoke just two words before falling to the stone cold floor, with the dagger through my heart, dead.
