Chapter 19

Wolf Attack

I looked up and saw something move in the forest. I narrowed my eyes and peered through the thick branches.

"Who's there?" I shouted, standing up.

Silence answered my call. Shivering, I crept towards the many trees to get a closer look. I couldn't see anything through the leaves. I grabbed a long stick and used it to pull back some of the small branches. A pair of green eyes and a wet nose loomed from the darkness.

I dropped my stick and paced backwards.

I heard a soft growl and turned and fled. I tried to summon my powers but the shock of injuring my sister blocked my abilities. I scrambled up a nearby tree and sighed with relief. Looking down I noticed a large, jet black furred wolf swiftly working it's way up too.

I screamed and jumped out the tree, heart racing. I ran on and on for what seemed like eternity. Soon, I reached a cliff. The wolves forced me back, the ground slightly crumbling beneath my feet. I closed my eyes.

"Stop!" I heard a voice command.

My eyes fluttered open and I saw a tall girl shaking her fist at the wolves. She had long, silky silver hair with a fringe that hung over one eye. She wore a White mini-dress that went with her hair. The wolves growled at her but she just shook her head and barked at them.

The wolves retreated. The girl grabbed my arm and pulled me through the forest. When we came to a little clearing, she motioned for me to sit and I obeyed.

"Who are you?" I blurted.

She giggled and answered me in a small, soft, cute voice. Totally different from what she had been speaking in to the wolves.

"I'm Lila!" she smiled.

I nodded, "Hi, My name is Fire or really Midnight."

"I can see!" she laughed, pointing at my black eyes.

"They weren't always like this," I huffed, causing her to burst into tears of laughter.

"Sorry," she smiled apologetically, "I just need a good laugh. I don't suppose you've seen a girl about twelve? With short black hair and red dip dye?"

"No," I said.

The girl frowned, "Ok. It's just that we are fighting against them. The darkness. We got separated and I am just trying to find them."

"Oh ok," I said, "I have Magic. I could help you."

Lila gasped, "You have magic? I wish I did!"

"But you can talk to animals!" I argued.

"Yeah, but that's because my mum is super intelligent and so am I! Scarlett hasn't got magic but she's a demi-god!" Lila informed me.

This time my mouth dropped open, "A demi-god? I thought they only existed in fairy tales and stuff!?"

Lila giggled again at my expression, "So are you gonna help me?"

"Sure," I smiled, pulling myself up from the floor.

With a quick jolt I remembered the shock of my sister. I felt the familiar magic of calm. It helped me regain control of my powers.

"So how can you find Scarlett with your powers?" Lila asked, pulling herself up.

"I think, I can do this thing called Shadow tracking," I told her, " I need a full description of Scarlett."

"Well she's a bit taller than me, black short spiky hair," Lila thought out loud.

I used my shadow tracking and found her not too far away.

" Do you want to teleport there?" I asked Lila.

She nodded looking a bit excited and nervous. In an instant, I beamed us straight to Scarlett. In front of me stood a girl with pearly glowing white skin.

"Finally!" she said rolling her eyes and wrapping her arms around Lila, " You were ages!"

"Sorry," Lila muttered.

"Introduce me then!" Scarlett released Lila and put a hand on her hip.

Scarlett wore a scarf pulled tightly around her neck and a leather jacket. Underneath she wore a dark red mini dress and black leggings.

"Scarlett, Midnight. Midnight, Scarlett," Lila pointed out, "She has magic!"

"Cool," Scarlett shook my hand.

I nodded and cleared my throat, "So you are fighting the darkness too?"

"Yeah, you are?" Scarlett asked.

Nodding, I turned to leave. The girls were about half my size! They probably wouldn't stand a chance against the darkness.

"Wait!" cried Lila.

I stopped and turned back, "Yeah?"

"Can we come and help you?" she pleaded.

Reluctantly, I nodded and they followed me without another word.
