Chapter 26

Smile

His stiff smile stretched back out into a thin line and he grabbed my wrist, pulling me behind him. We charged down the bleak, empty corridor and drifted round the corners. Eventually, we stopped in front of a indigo coloured, oak door.

I felt giddy and lent against it to keep me steady. As soon as my hand made contact with the door, a pain shot through my arm. I pulled back and stared in shock.

What was this door?

Lyell pushed it open without even flinching, holding it open for me to pass through.

I stared into his eyes and smiled but he didn't return one...

"Lyell?" I whispered urgently, "What's with this door?"

Something wasn't right... I couldn't sense any dark magic coming from him right now, yet I knew something was up. The air didn't feel right.

"It only lets you pass with permission and-" he stopped abruptly and a dark, shadowy figure emerged from the room.

The tall, elegant woman stepped out from the room. Her hair was shiny black, gleaming in the light. Her black eyes didn't give off a regular shine. No. They were cold, dull, hard, as if she wasn't even alive.

She looked so familiar but I couldn't place the memory. She smirked and lifted her arm, twirling her index finger in the air. Lyell suddenly fell to the floor, hands clasped around his neck. He was suffocating himself..?

I stared at the woman and used my magic to stop him. Black strings wrapped around Lyell's wrists, ripping them away from his throat. The woman let her arm drop to her side and her long, plain black dress morphed into an outfit of a strapless top and panther print leggings. The smirk of her's stretched out into a thin line.

Her blank expression sent shivers tumbling down my spine as she turned her head to look at mine. Who was she? I was positive I had known her before...

"Now, now," she spoke with an icy voice, "We don't want our guest to be frightened, now. Do we?"

I froze and the woman's hair transformed to a longer shape and turned its natural dirty blonde. A snake slithered out from the door and wrapped around her neck before turning into a feather boa.

"Nice to see ya, sis," she smiled, catching a hat out of the air and pulling it right down over her eyes.

"Sister," I breathed, my eyes turning cold and hard like her's.

Lyell stood up and walked over to my sister, my magic ropes evaporating into mist. He stumbled and my sister caught him in her arms, pangs of jealousy filled my mind. He was mine, not hers. She smirked at me, eyes still the same and kissed Lyell full on.

I clenched my fists, rage burning inside of me.

"I love ya, babe," Lyell smiled up at my sister.

That was the last straw, I punched my sister dead on the nose, blood flying everywhere. Her face hardened and she let Lyell go.

"I see you're jealous that your guy doesn't like you anymore. He likes me now, get over it," she teased, wiping the blood off with her arm.

"You did this!" I roared, "You hypnotized him!"

I made my black ropes tighten around her neck and she gasped trying to put it off. I smiled evilly. She got what she deserved. Lyell charged at me, the ground softening underneath my feet and swallowing me up.

I just about managed to use my shadow rope to pull me up gain before the hole closed up. Why did he do that? Was it my sister's hypnosis?

In the event of me falling, the rope from my sister's neck had disappeared. She stood before me, eyes gleaming. I trembled and felt powerless, just like I had years before.

Her arm transformed into a drill and she charged, causing me to dodge. I used my shadow ropes around her neck again but her neck also transformed into a drill, cutting right through. I created a gun and shot dark bullets into her chest. They got her but she morphed her arm even longer, into a long snake. It bite my leg before I could react and I felt the poison travel through my system.

I knew what her specialty was without even having to ask. Transforming. That was new. But during our fight, an old power of mine had resurfaced. It was dangerous, but it gave me a huge chance to finally defeat her.

I stumbled to my feet, my sister's body returning to it's normal shape. The bullets lay on the floor before her feet and I saw she managed to turn her clothes into bulletproof material just before I attacked her.

I smiled. It was inevitable that I was going to win no matter what. My sister also mirrored my grin, evil tainted on her lips. But it was the end now. I was finally going to end my life struggle against my sister's wrath.

"Darkness possession," I whispered, feeling my body fall limp as my spirit drifted out.

I floated right into my sister and I managed to take control of her easily. I felt myself push her out of control. She could no longer be able to control her body. All I had to do know is make her harm her own body. Simple, or so I thought...

Stage two of the process began. I watched and felt all her emotions, her memories. Every dark, light and painful ones. Tears leaked from the eyes that didn't belong to me as I viewed the story from her point of view. A vivid memory flashed across her mind.

"Daddy will I be really powerful?" I saw my sister as a young child, asking my Dad.

"No," my Dad boomed, voice firm, "You will never receive the ultimate power, I hate you. Get out of my site. You've always been paying so much attention to the light than the dark. You were not born at the right time. Your magic is weak and you refuse to use it against another human. You are no child of mine."

My sister began crying and she ran. She ran a long way.

Eventually, Mother found her and whispered, "Don't worry, you are stronger than anyone. It's destined for you to be the strongest magic user alive."

But she pushed her aside and stole her sister's magic. Jealousy in her heart.

The memory ended and I heard her name.

Angel.

The name she deserved.
