Chapter 23
Re-united
I snatched up the note and read it over several times.
'Dearest Daughter,
I have your friends and the boys. If you ever want to see them again, I suggest you join the darkness. No faking or they die. But, however, it seems you put a protection spell on one of the girls. I can break it easily of course but as I am your father, I let her go. Only so she can bring you to me. Don't worry, she can't run. Or all her family will pay dearly.
So, come to me or your friends get it. I know you'll make the right choice with that foolishness of yours. The girl is waiting for you at the location on the map. Where is the map you ask? Well, dearest, I suggest you up your game because I will make it fun for you. This whole thing will be a game. Every wrong step costs one of your comrades' lives.
Take care my cherry,
Your Father'
I clenched the letter in my hand and ripped it to shreds. I slowly felt my sanity slipping away from me. No. I have to fight.
"Run!" I screamed to Alex, "I'm losing my mind! Run or I'll hurt you!"
Alex looked me in the eyes then ran. I smiled gratefully and my sanity was snatched from me. I wrecked the house. It gave me a buzz. Destruction. What a nice thing to do. If only I had a puny human to tip apart.
"Stop!" commanded a voice in my head.
I stopped instantly and I found myself panting on the floor. What happened? This was bad... Ok back to mission 1. The map.
I searched through everything in the house. No luck. I took a deep breath and pretended I was father. Where would I put the map?
"I would obviously put it somewhere where it would hurt her," snarled a voice in my head.
Whoa! It was just like Dad. Maybe I have to go into therapy or something...
"What would hurt me?" I wondered out loud, "Physical pain? Nah. Mental pain. Yes, that's it. Memories! What was the worst day of my life? When auntie died! In the tower..."
I trembled as I spoke the name. I didn't even have the strength to say the full name. But I had to control my fear.
"The Tower of The Reaper," I whispered under my breath.
I heard the door open and my breath stuck in my throat. Friend or foe? Who was it?
"Midnight?" Alex called, "You calmed your karma yet?"
"Alex!" I whispered before knocking him over with a hug.
Alex hugged me hard and we just lay there.
"I-I'm sorry!" I sobbed as he pat my back, "I dont-don't know what to do anymore! I don't want to go back there! I have too though!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Alex chuckled, "But I'll be with you every step of the way."
"But," I choked between my sobs, "You hate magic!"
"So? We were friends before and we're friends now," he smiled.
I sobbed even more. He chose friendship over fears? Wow, he's tough.
The door flung open again, this time, it was a face I knew to well.
"Cynthia!" I cried.
Her face darkened and my hopes drowned.
"Fire-Midnight," she boomed, "Follow me or face your death."
I bit my lip, my little sister was taken over by the darkness? No, that can't have happened!
"Cynthia," I whispered, "What's happened to you?"
Her expression changed to pure shock and a tear tumbled down her face. Her eyes flashed and I watched bewildered as a black mist came from her. She fell and I rushed forward to catch her.
"Cynthia?" I shook her, "How does any of this make sense? How do you have powers? How are you even alive?"
Her eyes fluttered open and shut.
She let a small chuckle escape her lips, "Sis, you've always been such a worrier!"
I smiled back. She was fine!
"Midnight," she uttered softly, "I'm a demi-god. We can't die. I have lied to you my whole life. I'm not your auntie's child. I'm not related to you at all."
She wasn't? No. This can't be happening! She has to be my sister!
Cynthia grabbed my arm, "Stop! I know where the map is! I'll take you, and I know were the protection is too!"
More tears spilled down onto the floor.
"Cynthia, don't ever scare me again. And you're wrong, you're more then a friend! More then a soul mate! Cynthia, Goddess of the Moon, you are my sister!"
