Too Good to be True

*Ruth's POV*

"And this here is called a quartal chord." My Music Theory professor explained while pointing to a chord written on the white board.

"Does anyone know why this is called a quartal chord?" Professor Gilinsky asked, we all stared at him blankly.

This was one of my least favorite classes. Music Theory is a subject that I have always hated. It's like the math of music, which means it requires analytical thinking..... And I suck at that. I especially hated it though because my teacher was retched. His name wasProfessor Gilinksy, and he didn't have the slightest idea how to teach. He usually just lectures us for the entire class, and never fully explains the concept that is being taught. So basically, everyone in the class has to go teach the lesson to themselves, because Gilinski can't seem to.

"Ruth, what about you?" He asked.

"I don't know." I replied in my tired, raspy voice, that had only woken up about twenty minutes ago. I had no idea what the hell a quartal chord was. It was so hard to concentrate when all my mind wanted to do was wander to Shawn. I missed him so much. Thank God he was going to be here this weekend to visit me. I knew that I still needed to keep my focus though, I could not let my grade in this class slip like last semester.

"It's called this because it's built in intervals of four instead of three." Gilinsky stated.

Wow, look he actually explained something for once in his life, instead of assuming we already know what he's talking about. Gold star for Gilinski.

It was five O'clock on Friday, and I was on my way back from the gym. Shawn would be here in about two hours, which gave me about an hour and a half to get ready. We were going to go out tonight so he can meet all of my friends, and my sisters since he'll be sleeping at the sorority house. I had been talking about Shawn to them since I came back to school. For about a week, they didn't believe that I was dating him, but when I showed them pictures to prove it, they finally believed me. They're really excited to meet him.

"I can't wait to see you, I miss you so much 💗" I texted Shawn.

*Phone buzzes*

"I can't wait either babe, I'll be there in a couple hours. Love you 😘" He texted back, seconds later.

Thankfully, Shawn and I had not drifted apart. I was afraid we would because of the distance, but our relationship had only gotten better. We facetimed everyday, and he tells me about his day and I tell him about mine. I'm sure he's gotten sick of my rants about how stressful school is and how much I hate my theory teacher, but I don't think I could ever get sick of hearing him talk.

I walked back to my sorority house and got ready. I showered, did my makeup and hair, and put on a cute outfit. I wore a turtle-neck sweater that had a cut out in the front, with jeans, booties and a leather jacket.

*Phone buzzes*

"Guess who's here??" Shawn texted. I felt the butterflies flutter in my stomach.

"YOU!" I responded, instantly. I sprinted to the door and open it. I saw Shawn's beautiful smile looking at me.

"Babe!" Shawn said, embracing me with a kiss. We probably stayed there longer than needed, but it felt good to be in each other's arms again.

"I missed you so much." I said, as space grew between our mouths.

"I missed you too. I'm so excited for this weekend!" He exclaimed.

"I know, and my sisters are DYING to meet you." I said, taking his hand and stepping back into the house.
