*Ruth's POV*
Shawn and I were now both standing behind a tree, peaking around it to see what the set up of the reception looked like. It was the tail end of cocktail hour, and we weren't suppose to make our appearance until the announcer called us in. We were still able see everyone though. They were seated at circular tables, with white cloths over them. I could only see the glow of the center pieces, which were to have lavender flowers surrounding them. Mason jar lights, hung from beautiful Oak trees, which hung about ten feet above the tables.
"I'm so excited!" I blurted out, jumping up and down eagerly.
"I know, I am too!" Shawn said, squeezing both of my hands in his.
"Ladies and Gentleman, please find your way to your seats." The announcer spoke.
Shawn and I both grinned at each other, we could barely contain ourselves.
"You ready love?" He asked.
"You bet." I smiled.
"I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Shawn and Ruth Mendes!" The announcer exclaimed.
When we heard that, I took Shawn's arm, and we both started quickly down the grassy pathway towards the reception.
"And here they are Ladies and Gentlemen, congratulations to you both!" Our announcer said as we stepped from the grass, onto the stone ground. We waived and blew kisses to everyone in thanks. I looked up at Shawn, and saw the brims of his eyes watering.
"What's wrong hun?" I questioned worriedly.
He didn't answer, hey only kept staring in the distance. I looked in the direction he was, and realized he was gazing at our two families, sitting together at the table closest to us. They were grinning and waiving, both of our parents in tears. It was so adorable seeing how emotionally attached Shawn was to his family, and even my family too. That's one of the thousands of reasons I love him so much.
"And now time for the couples first dance." The announcer said to calm everyone down.
Once we had finished dancing to "I Don't Even Know Your Name' (The song choice was Shawn's idea, and I thought it was perfect since it was the first song that we ever sung together.) It was time for the toasts, and my Mom was up first. We took our seats at the middle table set for us, as we waited for her to step up to the mic.
"Oh boy, I don't even know where to begin. Well, when my daughter came up to me, asking if she could go on tour with a famous boy, that she had only met the day before, I honestly thought she was joking." Everyone cracked a laugh as she did too.
"But, after much consideration, my husband and I decided to say yes, and I'm very glad that did, otherwise I probably wouldn't be standing here at this moment. Ruth, you have never made a choice, unless you are absolutely sure of it, and I think that taking a chance on Shawn, is the best one you've made." She took a tissue out of her sleeve, to wipe the tears falling from her face.
"I know that he will always be there to keep you safe, support you, and treat you like a princess. You have become stronger, and more independent since being with this man, and I am very proud of the women that you have grown into. Although it is very difficult to let you go, I know that you are going to accomplish great things for the future to come. I love you darling."
I was balling. I knew from the start that my Mother was going to kill me with her speech. I laid my head on Shawn's shoulder in comfort, while he slid his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to his muscular body.
"I love you, you know that?" He whispered in my ear, then placing a kiss on my forehead.
"I know, I love you too."
Now it was time to prepare ourselves for Karen's speech.
"Hello everyone." She said with her classy, British accent.
"I recall when Shawn first started talking about Ruth. I said 'Ruth, who is Ruth?' I questioned over the phone. And he said 'She's a fan Mom, I met her at a meet and greet' And you know how any Mother of their famous son would react 'Well Shawn, she only likes you because of your money!'" She said laughing. Shawn and I croaked out a laugh, as the rest crowd burst out in hysterical laughter.
"Anyway, after I had finally met Ruth, I found that Shawn had made a very good choice. The first time I saw the way you two looked at each other, I thought, 'That is just the way that I look at my husband, even to this day' and from that day on, I knew you two were perfect for each other." Karen was wiped the corners of her eyes.
"Now, I don't mean to plagiarize what your Mum just said about you, Ruth. But, Shawn you truly have become such a lovely man since Ruth has come into your life. Ruth, you have taught him things that I never thought he would learn." Everyone chuckled again, including myself. "I have seen how she has treated you with such kindness and compassion. Love is equal, and you both have proven that in your relationship. I am very proud of you Shawn, and I am going to have a very hard time letting you go."
I looked in Shawn's eyes again. Now, his hands were covering his face, trying to hide a sob.
"That was beautiful, I am so happy I am apart of your family now." I said to him.
"And I'm so excited to be apart of yours." He said, peeking through his fingers.
I pulled his hands away from his face and kissed them.
"I love you." Shawn spoke softly.
