*Shawn's POV*

I was pacing up and down the hallway for what seemed like forever now. "How the hell do I get back?" I questioned. I was searching my brain for every possible thing that was the reason that I was still somewhat alive.

"I mean, wouldn't my family be something? They're still alive." I continued this for a few more minutes, when all of a sudden I heard a faint tune in the distance.

"What is that?" I said, following the sound down the hall.

"Is that.... No it can't be, no one ever puts that song on the radio." I spoke, realizing the melody sounded familiar. It was bringing me towards the room where my body lay. As I drew closer I began to hear voices, voices that sounded sad. I heard muffled crying, and someone saying comforting words. I turned the corner to see my family, and Ruth sitting in chairs next to my bed. Ruth was comforting Aaliyah, who was crying into Dad's lap.

"It's okay Aaliyah, he'll be okay." Ruth said, while rubbing Aaliyah's back. She didn't sound like she believed her words though.

I drew my attention back towards the sound of the music, as watching my loved ones suffer was too much to bare.

"Gravity, that'a Gravity by John Mayer. I love this one." I said. This song was one of my favorites of his. I remember how I was so inspired by this song, that it gave me the idea to create 'Ruin'.

I stood there, becoming more and more absorbed in the sound as it played. I began analyzing every detail of the it, the bluesy guitar in the back-round, and the slow beat of the drum. It made everything come together, making me feel that high I always get from music. I took a deep breath in, allowing my body fill up with the vibrations. Chills went down my spine, and tears formed on the rims of my eyes as the song made me think of my family, friends, tour, and Ruth...

"This is what I've been missing all along."

In this moment, I finally realized what I had been living for my entire life. I don't know why I never thought of it before. I don't just need to my family and Ruth to keep me going, but I need music too. I couldn't have just one, I needed all three.

All of a sudden, I saw a giant beam of blinding light shine all around me. I felt a burst of air wash over my body, and for a moment I felt as if I was floating on a cloud. Before I could process what was going on around me, I found myself opening my eyes to see Ruth's beautiful hazel ones, looking down at me.

"Shawn?" Ruth's sweet voice spoke. She looked unsure that I was truly awake.  She was sitting the closest to me, near my head, while my parents and sister sat to her right. She elbowed Aaliyah to get her attention.

"Hey, are his eyes opening, or am I just seeing things now?" Ruth asked her.

"No, they're opening!" Aaliyah exclaimed, looking at me with wide, excited eyes. She popped out of her comfy chair and threw herself onto me.

"SHAWN!" She cried with tears of joy. I was so happy to see her, I hadn't seen her since tour started, which had been over a month. I began to wrap my arms around her body, when suddenly, I felt a wave pain make itself known throughout my upper body

"Ouch!" I yelled.

Aaliyah quickly took herself off of me, and looked at me with a concerned expression.

"I'm sorry Shawn."

"It's okay Aaliyah, I'm really happy to see you though.

"Me too." She replied with a smile.
