*Ruth's POV*
Immediately after my Mom bought M&G tickets, I went on twitter and made a fan account for Shawn. I was already a big supporter of Shawn on my original twitter account, but I thought people were getting annoyed with me tweeting and retweeting everything about him, so I made an account specifically for him. I was still going to post about him on my original account though. People can deal.
I found that there were a few hashtags trending for him since he was nominated for the best cover, and best fan army at the iHeartAwards. I tweeted and retweeted these hashtags multiple times throughout the day to vote for him. I was going to vote for him as much as possible so he would win.
*Phone buzzes*
I had gotten a twitter notification from Shawn on my original account that read "About to start answering some questions that you might have, tweet me yours!"
As soon as I could, I tweeted him a question. I wrote, "I'm a music major, so I was wondering, did you ever have any vocal training before you started singing on vine? Also, I love you!" After this, I waited to see if he would respond. I didn't really think he was going to since he gets millions of tweets from fans every single day, but I thought it was worth a shot.
To utilize my waiting time, I went downstairs to grab my things to start packing for school. I had been on a break for about a month for the Holidays. Once I got back upstairs, I checked my phone again. When I clicked the home button, I saw that I had another twitter notification from Shawn. I figured it was just him answering a question from another fan. I unlocked it, only to find that he had responded to my question! I felt tears beginning to stream down my face as I read his response.
"No, I didn't have any vocal training b4 vine, but I'm sure u r better than me because ur a music major! Love u too!"
I could not believe I was reading this. Shawn Mendes had actually replied to my tweet. I have sent him a ridiculous amount of tweets in the past, and he replied to the one question that I was most curious about! This was a dream come true. Well, next to the fact that I get to meet him in a few months.
"AAAHHH!" I squealed, as I tweeted a 'Thank you' response back to him.
The next thing I knew, my worrisome mother ran into my room.
"Honey! Are you okay? What happened? Why are you crying?" My Mom spoke with panic in her tone.
"It's okay Mom, Shawn just replied to my tweet, these are happy tears!" I exclaimed.
"Oh thank goodness." My Mom said with a sigh of relief. "I thought you had hurt yourself or something!"
"Haha it's okay Mom. Go back to what you were doing, I'm fine." I said, my eyes glued to my phone.
"Alright dear, don't let this Shawn Mendes distract you from your school work this semester. I know what happens when you daydream about boys."
"Oh my gosh Mom, it's not like that." I chuckled. "If anything he makes me want to work harder."
"Really? Now why is that?" My Mom questioned
"Because, I see the hard work that he puts into his music, so it motivates me to do the same."
"Well, I'm glad to hear that a pop artist can do that for someone like you." Mom said.
"What do you mean, someone like me?"
"Well, usually classically-trained musicians look up to other well-accomplished classical musicians. Like I look up to Eric Whitacre." My Mom got her masters degree in music education, just what I'm majoring in now. She is a high school choir teacher, and is obsessed with the choral composer, Eric Whitacre.
"I'm just glad there is a pop singer that can inspire so many different kinds of people. You don't see that very often."
"Yeah, I guess I've never thought of it like that." I spoke, pondering the thought.
"Alright honey, I'll let you continue your freak out." She giggled.
"Haha, okay Mom, see you later." Then she walked out the door.
I had never thought about how Shawn can impact so many people's lives. I mean, with the amount of classical music I have grown up listening to, and performing. I never thought that a pop singer could be such a huge inspiration to me, and so many others.
*Hey guys! It looks like these are going to be pretty short chapters, but it's going to start getting pretty interesting soon! Commented below and tell me what you think so far! :)
