After I drop Theo home I park my motorcycle in the garage and walk inside. Max runs up and jumps on me licking every part of skin that's exposed. I laugh and wrestle him to the floor.
"April, is that you?" Mom calls from the kitchen. I hold Max down so I can speak. "Yeah mom. I'm home."
"Good. Come to the living room. We have news."
"Be right there." I hop up and run to my room with Max right at my heels. I drop my book bag and baseball bag by my desk then take my shoes off. Then I run back downstairs to the living room where dad, mom, and Uncle Matt are sitting and talking in hushed voices.
"Hey." I say sitting next to Uncle Matt.
"Skittles, I've told your parents about your superpowers and we've talked about them long and hard." Uncle Matt says. I nod my head for them to continue.
"So, there's this Academy for kids with superpowers and we were wondering if you wanted to join? They teach you how to use them and other stuff that goes along with it." Mom says. Dad nods his head and says, "We would like you to join so you can learn how to control and use your powers. To use those powers for good things."
I nod my head then ask the question on my mind. "What about school here? What about my friends? My baseball team? Would they accept me in the middle of the year?"
"Yes they will accept you. I'm very good friends with the headmaster. You would still go to school so you can have a normal education but you would have to quit the baseball team because you have to get to the academy after school as soon as you can. I'm also going to sign you up for weekend classes since you will still be going to be getting a normal education" Uncle Matt tells me.
"If I quit the baseball team Hunter will know there's something up. He would see through my lies because he knows how much I love baseball." I say feeling defeated. Hunter knows me so well I don't think I could hide stuff from him.
Uncle Matt thinks for a moment while dad and mom look at him to give the answer. Finally Uncle Matt opens his mouth and says, "I guess you can tell your friends only, and only, if they can keep it a secret and tell no one. That is very important."
"Why do we have to keep these powers hidden?" I ask confused about everything.
"Because there are people in this world who also have superpowers and these people will do anything they can to destroy you. They want to be the only ones with superpower's so that they no one else can be as powerful as them. That is why it is quite important that you're powers keep hidden. Leave no one room to suspect. Do you understand?" Uncle Matt says. I nod my head. I have a new goal. To NOT be destroyed.
After we're done talking I go up to my room to ponder all that I've heard. I'm really excited to go to this new academy but I'm also sad to leave all my friends and my baseball team. But I guess It's for the best. I really need to learn how to use and control my powers and Uncle Matt can't teach me everything. Maybe this will be a great adventure. I'll make new friends- if I can, I've always been on the slow side in that department-, I'll learn how to use my powers, I'll learn how to control my powers, and I'll learn new tricks. This will be fun. Now how best to tell Hunter and Theo I'm leaving the baseball team...
