"Uhh... Not again!" I complain as I miss the ball. My name is April Roberts. I play baseball for my school and I'm the only girl on my team.

"It's ok Roberts. Let's try it again." Coach Chester says. I nod my head and focus my eyes on the ball. Coach Chester pitches the ball. I swing and... hit it! "Good job Roberts." Coach Chester says. I walk over to the bench to get some water.

"Nice hit April." Hunter says.

"Thanks Hunter." I say sitting next to him. I gulp a lot of water down. Hunter is my best friend. When we both made it on the team we were so happy. We've been best friends since I moved here.

I look out at the field. I see Theo swinging the bat. He's always been good at baseball. He's one of the most popular guys at school. All the girls stare at him and but I don't care.

I'm that type of girl who doesn't like boys. I don't make friends easily for that matter. When I moved here from Columbus, Ohio. I was the new girl and everyone would make fun of me and call me names. I'm also picked on because I have guy friends. I have guy friends because there's so much less drama, plus It's easier to talk to a guy about sports then it is to talk with a girl about nail polish and gossip. Because I don't like to gossip but the girls here at Bradford Middle School do. Gossiping is mean so I don't partake in it. Plus I'm not a girlie girl. I don't paint my nails or wear make up. The only thing I wear is powder and that's to help hide the blackheads on my nose and some pimples that I have.

Hunter gets up to go swing the bat and Theo comes back. "Hey April. You've been doing really well on the team." He says flexing his muscles. "Yeah I know. I've played baseball since I was four years old." I say rolling my eyes.

"Nice. No wonder you know what to do when you're up there. I've seen most girls like you cower when the ball comes flying towards them and then they run off the field crying."

Now this made me mad. "For your information I am not like other girls. I never have and I never will. You got that?" I'm pointing my finger in his face but I really don't care. No one's going to judge me next to a girl who knows nothing than what nail polish color looks best with what shirt.

He just laughs. "You're funny." He walks away to his friends who are on the other side of the bench. He thinks he's so cool. I really don't have time for people that think they're better than everyone else.

I sit back down on the bench and watch Hunter hit the ball.

At the end of practice Hunter and I walk to my dad's car. Hunter lives next door so I drive him to practices or sometimes he drives me. I climb into the front seat and Hunter gets in the back with my little brother Asher. They start talking about video games. I don't like video games. I like sports.

We drop Hunter off at his house and then pull into our driveway. Asher runs inside to probably resume his video games but I go around the house to my treehouse. It's not to big but I like it. Asher doesn't come in here because first he doesn't like to play outside and second it's my treehouse. My Uncle Matt built it for me when I was in fourth grade. I've grown so it's a little smaller than what it used to be but I love it.

I take my homework out of my backpack and start working on it. Math is so hard. Who even came up with it. I'm not even going to use most of the stuff we learn in math. I'm going to play sports and you don't need to know triangles and angles to do sports.

I finish up all of my homework and go inside. I climb the stairs to my room. I throw my book bag next to my desk then grab shorts and a T-shirt. I go to my bathroom and turn the shower to a warm temperature. Then I jump in.
