Chapter 18

 Today is Friday. Yay! I climb out of bed and put skinny jeans and a blue T-shirt that says 'I Have My Own Power'. I slide on a white jacket to go with it. I also put on my white converse. Then I go to my bathroom to get ready.

When I come out I grab my book bag and head downstairs with Max right behind me. Asher is already at the table eating a bowl of cereal. I grab a muffin and go outside yelling goodbye to Asher over my shoulder.

I put my helmet on and climb on top of my motorcycle. My phone beeps right before I pull out so I take it out of my book bag and look at it. It's a text from Theo.

'Could you give me a ride to school?'

'Sure. I can give you a ride. See you in a bit.'

'Thanks.'

'No problem-o. :)'

I pull out of the driveway and drive to Theo's house. When I pull up along the curb he comes out. I pass him the second helmet. He puts it on and then climbs on behind me. I start the engine and drive down the road to school.

When we get there we climb off and put the helmets in the compartment under the seat. Then we grab our bags and walk inside.

"How about we meet at your locker after school?" Theo asks me. I nod my head.

"We can do that. I guess I'll see you after school then."

"See you after school." Theo gives me a side-hug and walks down a hallway to his locker. I smile and shake my head at his back.

I walk to my locker and grab all of the stuff I need for my first few classes. Then I set off down the hallway. Before I knew it I was on the floor. I look up too find someone else on the floor as well. I guess I wasn't watching where I was going. He gets up and sticks out his hand to help me up. I take it.

Once I'm up I get on my knees and collect all of my fallen books. He does the same. "I'm really sorry. Just wasn't watching where I was going I guess." I say with a smile.

"No. It's my fault. I'm sorry. I'm Ashton by the way." He says smiling at me. He looks friendly.

"I'm April. April Roberts."

"Nice to meet you. I'm new to the school."

"You are? I can show you around if you'd like. Who's your first class?"

"Umm..." He looks down at a piece of paper. "Mr. Dunkin."

"I have him first to! Come on let's go put our stuff in class and then I'll show you around the school."

"Ok, that would be great."

"Follow me." I start down a hallway to class. Ashton follows right behind me. He's a nice kid. When we get to class we walk inside and put our things at two desks in the back and then we walk up to Mr. Duncan's desk.

"Umm... Mr. Duncan? This is Ashton. He's new to the school and I was wondering if I could show him around and answer any of his questions. Would that be ok?" I ask nervously. Mr. Duncan looks up from his computer screen to look at me. I gulp. "Hmm..." He slides his look to Ashton. "I don't see why not. Welcome to the school Ashton. I hope April is a good enough tour guide for you."

Ashton smiles. He has a crooked grin. It's cute. "Don't worry Mr. Duncan. April has been a great help so far." He says shaking hands with Mr. Duncan. After that we leave the classroom and set off down the hall.

"So... what's your life out of school look like?" Ashton asks.

"After school I go to my Uncle Matt's house and help him out with things. I love him dearly. He's not that old but he likes it when I come and visit so I do it regularly. But before I go I drop Theo James off at his house." Ashton nods his head listening. I hope he buys my story.

"Who's Theo James?"

"Oh, he's a great friend of mine. We're practically best friends."

"Nice."

We walk down the hallway to the gym. "As you can probably guess this is the gym." I say pointing at it. Ashton looks through the doors. "That's a pretty nice gym." I nod my head. We keep walking. I show him the cafeteria, front office, library, band room, chorus room, art room, spanish, french, and all of the academic classrooms and the lockers.

Finally we make it back to the classroom. We walk in and go to our seats in the back. Mr. Duncan gives us both a nod and continues with his class. I sigh as the rest of the day slowly comes at me. I can't wait to get to the academy after school.
