Two chapter in one day! ..hehe...just don't kill me, Kay?? ^^
~*********************************~I could see people running with frightened expressions on their faces. They could pass right through my body like if I were some type of spirit. I sat on the ground clinching on to my own self.Tears fell down on to my legs, tears like when one looses somebody dear. Even when I tried to speak, they would fall out like if they were the blue sea.
There was a strong pain in my chest, an empty yet strong delicate pain.
My body wouldn't stop shaking the more I thought of a reason for why I was. I didn't know the reason. I had none. Even if I tried to scream a name out, no name would appear in my head...
"Child..."
A voice said from above.
I reluctantly looked up to find a shadow standing besides me.
"Do you know why you are crying?"
I shook my head some seconds later as I thought for a reason.
"Then why do you keep on crying if you don't obtain an answer?"
"Leave...me..."
I managed to whisper. My ears drummed with tiny little voices, each cursing at me like if I were a plague. One second after another, my body ached and burned like if I were being stabbed.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw as the shadow bent itself besides me and placed its hand on my head.
"Tell me,child, what color do I appear before you?"
I reluctantly lifted up my gaze, the little voices in my ears telling me to keep my eyes away from it. I was about to do as I was told when a hand grabbed my chin and lifted it up.
"Do they scare you?"
I nodded as I felt tears falling down.
"Do you want them to leave?"
I nodded again.
Another hand appeared, and now both hands cupped my ears. They felt warm against my freezing skin.
With my eyes wide opened, I looked up searching for a face. I could not see one. It was just a shadow with hands of that of a man's. A man... There supposed to be someone next to me, someone I would be able to recognize. Yet... There was just a shadow. I desperately tried searching deep within me for a name, remember a face of that certain someone...I had no recognition of anyone. I knew no one. Found no one.
One of its hands cupped my cheek, lifting my head up.
"It hurts, doesn't it? You cannot remember anyone?"
I managed to lift up my hand and placed it above its hand on my cheek.
For some reason, I became still and...in peace.
I looked up and when I did, the color of its shadow had changed color. It was now a beautiful purple color. Even though I could not see the actual form of its face, I could see two sapphire eyes staring back at me. They reminded me of something, something that could no longer exist.
An ocean of deep profoundness and sympathy.
How could something like that exist in this world? There was only a black and red dome hovering over us.
My eyes eagerly searched for those eyes, those peaceful eyes.
I cared not if he suddenly caused me pain or swallowed me whole, this peace I felt inside me was the only thing I truly wanted to feel.
"I could easily inflict pain on you if my desires were such in this precise moment, child. And thus...your human instinct in such presence of danger is undoubtedly arresting and...are you going to continue crying?"
The people still ran past us, their pain
and fear clearly shown on their movements and facial expression. Why wasn't I joining them? I felt scared as well yet the only thing I could do was shiver and wait until my bones broke by themselves. That heavy pain inside still lingered on to me like if it were a thing I was meant to have.
"Why do they run?"
I asked as my eyes moved from person to person.
"Their world is burning down. They're humans after all. All they can really do is run, is it not?"
"Can you help them?"
"Look at me,child."
It said as a hand lifted my chin up.
"You have to wake up in order to help them. If not, you will spent your time tormenting yourself as you continue to watch this replayed scene."
"How do I wake up? How do I help them?"
The shadow ran one of its fingers down my cheek, and cupped my cheek in a gentle manner.
"Stop crying and sleep."
My eyes instantly followed the shadow's command. My tears weren't running down like a stampede as my body carelessly rested itself down on the ground.
As I closed my eyes, the shadow's gentle eyes glimpsed down at me from above.
"Will you stay?"
I managed to say as I tried to keep myself awake.
"I will."
I felt nothing. Nothing pained anymore.
*******
My eyelids slowly opened, my body shivering from the cold breeze. Like if it was a thing I had never done, I moved my toes, my legs, my hands, followed by my head. My bones all popped like if they hadn't been moved in a while. It took me a while to fully open my eyes since my eyelashes protested to be separated from each other. My eyes felt extremely tired, yet, they desired to be open.
"Look at that. She woke up."
My body instinctively backed away from the hand that now stretched out to grab me. A woman stood in front of me, already taking back her hand as she saw how my body shivered.
She had short, brown hair up to her ears, her earrings shined even from the small amount of light in the room. She had a long black dress with no designs whatsoever.I also wore a dress like hers only that mine was brown and wrongly cut from the bottom. It had no sleeves, only having a v- neck cut on the neck area.
"Hey kid. Get up. They'll soon be here for you now that you're awake."
A man sitting down behind the woman said as he handed a piece of paper to a small boy. The boy ran out the door, the piece of paper hidden inside the bag around his neck. I stared after him, my guts already twisting.
The man, even though he had a perfectly round belly, easily stood up from the wooden chair. He slicked his hair back with his hand, then readjusted his shirt down as half of his belly exposed itself. His eyes were stern and brown, his mouth twitching like if he had something to say yet kept silence every time he opened his mouth. Meanwhile, the woman stood few feet away from me, her body leaning itself on the wall and by the look on her face, she seemed like she wanted to stay in that position forever.
She let out a sigh as the man walked closer to me, his hand going back to fixing his shirt.
"They're going to take her?" the woman asked as she clung her hands to the wall. She dug her nails on the wall, making long and slow scratchings. Her black eyes looked at me like if in pain.
Yet, she smiled.
"Why can't they take me instead? Why do they have to take her? Huh? Why you? Hey..."
She turned to the man, her hands already grabbing his shoulders as she turned him to face her.
"They don't know how she looks like. How about I trade places with her?"
"Of course they know how she looks like."
The man said as he shook her hands off and gave her a disapproving look as he went back and sat down.
He rubbed his forehead as he turned towards his desk that hid behind him, quickly grabbing a pen and writing things down.
"You know what they'll do to you? I'll tell you. They'll strip you off, they'll whip you. But pretend like you don't know. SHH. Keep it a secret, would you?"
She whispered in my ear, her hands pulling my hair until my face came face to face with the wooden floor.
As she backed away, she kept her hideous eyes on me, her creepy smile still lingering on her face.
All of a sudden, I lifted my leg up, hitting her right on the face. Her body flew back, crashing on top of the man and he as well fell down along with her.
I stood up in an instant, running out through the same door the small boy had gone through. I felt this shaken anger inside of me, this possessive, yet sick feeling inside of me. A part of me wanted to go back and make that woman pay and another part of cried because I knew it wasn't right for me to think that way.
As I passed by the unknown corridors, I spotted the small brown-eyed boy standing by a corner. His eyes watching me as I continued running, his arm lifted up and pointing forward. I slowed down as I passed him, he looked down and walked towards the room I had come from.
"Hey you!"
An angry voice said from behind me. I had no clue where that group of men had appeared from but they were now running behind me.
I spotted a window right ahead of me and as soon as I got close enough, I decided to jump out since I had no other chose to get out.
I knew absolutely nothing of what I was doing. Since when was I like this? Why was I being chased? Then why was I running?
It didn't take long before I hit the ground below but to my surprise, instead of falling out flat, I started to roll down. Once I finally stopped, I laid on the ground as I continued to cover my face. I had no intention of looking up.
"Found her."
It sounded like a child's voice ,yet it was terrifying enough to send goosebumps down my spine.
The sounds of footsteps were closing in, and I was certain it was those men who were running behind me.
"Sir."
"Did she just jump out of that window?"
"Yes...Sir."
"Why in the heavens would she? I brought her here for you to care for her, not to test the height of that building.Hey girl. Get up wont you?"
The men had me on my feet even before I looked up, their hands tightly holding me in place in front of the person giving the orders.
He was nothing more than a kid. His dirty blond hair hung just above his ears, his bangs slightly touching his eyes. His eyes were black, just like of those of that woman. Like her, he also had that devilish look on his face. The more I stared, the more his face showed annoyance.
"Why are you staring?"
He demanded as he snapped his fingers up across my face.
Even though he was just a kid, he had that authority over his men like if he was the most feared person around.
Their grip on my arms and neck suddenly loosened as the kid paced around me in a circle. His eyes were ready to observe, his body tense and too rigid for such youth.
"What in the world did he do..."
He whispered as he ran his hand across his forehead.
"Let her go. Come, girl. And all of you, go do something useful for once."
He ordered as he turned and started walking ahead.
I glanced behind as I started walking, capturing the men and their anxious expressions on their faces.
"Hurry up, I'm burning."
The kid protested as he waited underneath a tree, his hand placed on his head to block the sun. The sun? My eyes searched up, a sudden desire to see such beauty of a light. A light I desperately searched for and wanted to see.
I hadn't realized it, I hadn't felt it on my skin. I felt no warmth from it, felt not a single ray of heat.
"A person like you can't feel such thing, I'll tell you that much."
His eyes were already on mine by the time I looked at him. This kid...there was something off about him, something told me there was. In reality, he was no kid. It felt like he hid a mask underneath that porcelain skin, a mask so deep in anger and misunderstandings.
"Did I do something to...you?"
I asked, a question that not even I knew where it had come from. His eyes widened for a moment, his laughter echoing around.
"What do you think?"
He asked as he continued with his sinister laugh.
"Did you do something to me? You want an answer? No, you didn't. Not to me. "
"To who...did I...?"
"Be anything but stupid and ignorant, girl."
His voice lowered in pitch when he spoke those words and along with his voice, his face darkened with shadows the more he intensely stared.
"Come here."
He ordered as he pointed down towards the ground next to him with his index finger. No matter how much I desired nothing but my distance from him, his demanding eyes fired with threats of anger. I did as I was told and walked to his side.
"Listen to me, girl. I'll set you your funeral with no special service included if you ever betray his trust. If you ever try to go your own "path" , I'll make sure the path you walk in is dark and ready to welcome you into your death."
What kind of kid was he? Those eyes were not ones a kid would have, and that devilish smile?
"Sir? Do you need our assistance?"
The men stood behind me again holding some type of defensive mechanism in their hands as they waited for an order. Weapons? They looked like metal poles, green looking flames glowing on the tips of each pole. A simple pole with flames on the tips...why did it look awfully wrong?
"Get her. Tighten her hands firmly, got that?"
My hands were behind my back by the time I turned back to look at the kid. I was really starting to hate that stupid smile of his. I hated the thought of been attacked even though I had done nothing wrong. I hated it so bad. It was between a desperation that made you get on your knees and cry your hate away or when you just wanted to be taken away and let them do as they pleased.
"Get her!"
I had managed to slip away before they had placed those weird looking cuffs on my hands. Before anyone knew it, I was battling against them and attacking them with an unknown force and drive. When I tried to take their metal poles from them, as soon as I placed my hands on them, my hands would automatically pull back in pain. The curious thing happened afterwards. The kid pulled two of his men by their collars as they made their way towards me. His men fell unconsciously to the ground, his twitching eyes stared at me in disbelief. No matter how many attacked me at the same time, I would dodge them in such easy manner that I would leave the men and questioning who I was.
But those poles? Why couldn't I touch them?
"Get her damn it! Call for more guards!"
One man, who still had his pole in his hand, hit the tip of his pole on the ground, a small green circle appearing around the broken ground. It glowed with green light, the light moving in different directions.
What was that light?!
"Get her!"
I hadn't noticed the men who were arriving in the scene, each of them carrying the same looking poles in their hands.
What had I done to them? Why wasn't anyone helping me? My tears were falling out the more I continued to fight. Even though those poles burned my hands, I took hold of one and fought off the men close to me. My legs immediately ran as I saw an opening straight ahead of me. They were close behind, but I somehow out ran them as soon as I saw them getting closer.
In panic, in fear...I ran without turning back. I continued, not even stopping when my feet bled. The pain in my chest was the one who brought me to my knees, my hands clenched as the pain continued for some minutes.
"What happened to you?"
My body froze and with the only strength I had left, managed to crawl besides a tree.
"No! Please don't! Don't!"
All I could see were shadows and strange lights that would leave anybody blind.
I wrapped myself with my arms, hiding my head before getting attacked again.
I could hear my loud screams as my fear increased, my tears letting out more and more tears. Two hands circled my shoulders, pulling me into a warm yet hard body. I looked up and for some seconds, I saw those calming sapphire eyes before my eyes completely shut themselves. A small laughter came from the person besides me, his eyes smiling down at me.
"Sleeping again?"
I had seen those eyes in a dream, that I was sure about th...
