Europe and Canada are pretty far away. Over four thousand miles aways.
For the past couple of months, Jonah and Aria haven't been more than a mile away from each other. How were they going to get through this long distance friendship.
Jonah will be in Canada for 6 months, while Aria will be in Europe for 12 months.
They talked with each other frequently; however, they never really talked about their departure, and how they confessed their love for each other. All they talked about was what they did during the day.
By the 5th month, the number of conversations that had gradually decreased. They both would make excuses as to why they weren't able to talk that day, but honestly, they just didn't know what to talk about anymore.
Jonah soon returned to Holloway, and patiently waited for Aria to come back.
A couple of months after he came back, he decided to work at the coffee shop.
"Hi I would like one iced coffee." A girl said.
"Okay. Anything else?" Jonah asked.
"No that's about it." The girl answered.
"Your name?" Jonah asked.
"Mia." Mia answered.
"Your iced coffee will be ready soon." Jonah said with a smile.
He looked at her and noticed how gorgeous she was. Her long brunette hair fell perfectly on her back. Her quirky glasses placed perfectly on her the bridge of her nose. She had small freckles on the top of her cheeks and on her nose. She was beautiful.
"Are you doing anything after 2 o'clock?" Jonah asked.
"No not really. Why?" Mia replied.
"I was just wondering whether you were interested in getting a portrait done" Jonah responded.
"Oh. I've gotten similar offers multiple times; however, I do not like to get portraits done by someone I do not know." Mia proclaimed.
"Then I'll take you out, and you can get to know me." Jonah suggested.
"Where to?" Mia asked.
"The park? Wait nevermind, we can go out to eat at the diner near by?" Jonah proposed.
He was going suggest the park; however, that Aria's and his place.
"That would be nice." Mia said with a smile.
"We can go after my shift. Just meet me here after 2:00, and here's your iced coffee. See you later." Jonah stated with a smile.
"Thank you." Mia replied and left the coffee shop.
Jonah really missed Aria.
He missed her bluntness, her corny jokes, her see ya later's and in a while crocodile's.
But he still had to endure a couple of more months before Aria came back, maybe this whole portrait arrangement will help him distract himself from thinking about Aria.
"Hey you good?" Mia asked while waving her hand in front of Jonah's face.
Time had passed by so quickly, Jonah was still thinking about the portrait arrangement.
"Oh hey! It's 2:00 already?" Jonah said, trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Yup. You want to get going?" Mia asked.
"Yea sure. I'll be out in two minutes." Jonah replied.
"So tell me about yourself." Mia said.
Jonah and Mia were sitting across each other at Julie's. Julie's was small family diner in Holloway that opened right after Jonah left for Toronto.
"Well. I'm 18 years old now. I'm an amateur finger painter. I recently was in Toronto for a finger painting program. I'm not sure what else you want to know." Jonah responded shyly.
Mia kept asking him questions, and Jonah answered the questions truthfully. It was quite late after they finished their dinner, so Jonah offered to walk her home.
"I had a good time. You're not too bad." Mia said while approaching her house.
"I had a good time too. Maybe we could be friends?" Jonah suggested.
"Friends?" Mia said with a weird look on her face.
"Oh. Uhm I uhm, basically there is already someone that I love -" Jonah started saying before Mia cut him off.
"It's all good. Friends it is." Mia said with a small smile.
"See you later?" Jonah asked before leaving to go home.
"Yea. I'll see you later." Mia replied.
For a couple of more months, Jonah and Mia hung out pretty often. Sometimes they would just go sit at the diner and talk, and sometimes they would go watch a movie.
Needless to say, Jonah's mind was diverted. He was happy. There was only a week left until Aria would be coming back, but that wasn't on top of Jonah's mind. He still needed to make a portrait of Mia. He completely forgot that he wanted to do that.
"Hey Mia." Jonah chimed into the phone.
"Hey Jonah. How are you?" Mia responded quickly.
"I'm doing well. I was wondering whether you wanted to get that portrait done soon." Jonah stated.
"Oh yea sure. How about next week, Friday?" Mia suggested.
"That sounds perfect. See you then, unless you want to hang out before then?" Jonah said.
"I'm a bit busy, so we'll just meet at Julie's then." Mia said right before she hung up the phone.
Next week, Friday was the day Aria was coming back home.
Jonah didn't remember that.
