It was Friday.
The day Aria came back from Europe.
The day Jonah had plans with Mia.
Jonah woke up with a jolt and looked at the time. It was already 11:46 am. He needed to be at Julie's in 14 minutes. Jonah and Mia were going to have lunch and then he was going to bring her home to finger paint her.
Everything was planned, but he slept in, so now he had to rush.
He quickly sent a text to Mia, telling her that he would be a couple of minutes late.
"Jonah where are you going?" Jonah's mom asked.
"I'm going to Julie's. Once I get back I'll be in my room painting, so don't disturb me." Jonah replied quickly.
"But Jonah! Aria is coming back today" Jonah's mom shouted out into the thin air.
***
"Hey! I'm super sorry for coming late, but I kind of slept in." Jonah said with a chuckle, while sitting next to Mia in the booth they usually sit at.
"It's all good." Mia replied with a forced smile.
"Mia, look at me." Jonah said.
"What?" Mia asked.
"What's wrong? You don't seem okay. We can postpone today." Jonah said with an encouraging smile.
"It's just, ugh, I'm just going to do it." Mia said. She smashed her lips onto Jonah's lips. He kissed her back, but not for too long. It was a quick restless kiss.
"Mia, I've already told you that -" Jonah started saying before Mia cut him off.
"I know. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I just needed to do that. Let's each some lunch, and then go get that portrait done." Mia replied.
***
"Mom!" Aria yelled out while coming out of the airport.
"Aria, I've missed you so much!" Aria's mom said while pulling her into a hug.
Aria pulled away and looked at the faces that were there to greet her.
"Where's Jonah?" Aria asked.
"He's at Julie's. I tried to remind him that you were coming back today, but he ran out of the house before I could." Jonah's mom answered.
"Who's Julie?" Aria asked curiously.
"Darling, Julie's is a diner that opened after Jonah left to go to Toronto." Aria's dad said with a chuckle.
"Oh okay, where is it?" Aria asked, feeling relieved.
"It's near the coffee shop you used to work at." Aria's mom answered.
"Okay well I'm going to go over there. See you guys later!" Aria said while leaving all her luggage with them.
She ran all the way to Julie's. She was ecstatic to meet Jonah again.
She instantly regretted feeling ecstatic when she saw Jonah kissing another girl.
She ran out of the diner sobbing.
***
"Mom! I'm home." Jonah yelled out, but he got no response. So he went straight to his room.
He got Mia to sit down on his bed, and he started working on his canvas.
"How long is this going to take?" Mia asked impatiently.
"Mia, I need to sit here instead." Jonah stated.
"Are you kidding me? You've been working on your painting for an hour already. Ugh whatever." Mia said while switching spots with Jonah.
"Lay on the couch and drape this blanket over you. Just look relaxed, you can even go to sleep if you want." Jonah said.
Mia complied and Jonah started on a new canvas. He kept painting for hours and hours, then he noticed a light in Aria's room.
He looked over and saw Aria peeking through her curtains.
He waved and smiled, but she glared at him and shut the curtains.
Once he finished his painting, he woke up Mia up, and she left.
Jonah went to Aria's house, but her dad didn't let him in.
"Aria doesn't want to talk to you." Aria's dad said sternly.
"But I want to see her." Jonah said softly.
"You hurt her." Aria's dad replied.
"What? How?" Jonah asked frantically.
"She saw you kissing some other girl. She cared for you. She loved you. How could you stab her in the heart?" Aria's dad barked out.
"Oh no. I need to make things right. That girl was just my friend. I do not like or love her; however, she has feelings for me, so she kissed me. I -" Jonah started explaining before Aria's dad cut him off.
"You don't need to explain yourself to me. Go explain yourself to Aria. You better not mess it up." Aria's dad said, letting Jonah in the house.
Jonah rushed upstairs and saw that Aria's door was open. She was tangled in the blankets and sobbing.
"Oh Aria." Jonah sighed out.
"Go away Jonah. I believed you loved me, but I guess being separated caused you to acquire feelings for someone else." Aria said while sobbing.
"Give me a minute, and I'll explain." Jonah said.
"Okay." Aria replied.
Jonah explained every single detail. He told her about how he started working at the coffee shop, and how he met Mia, and why she kissed him. Aria listened intently.
After he finished, Aria hugged him. She missed him so much.
"I'm so sorry Aria." Jonah said while wiping Aria's tears away.
"It's okay Jonah. I love you so much." Aria said with a small smile.
"I love you too Aria. I would never intentionally hurt you." Jonah said while holding Aria's chin.
"Kiss me Jonah." Aria said while looking into Jonah's eyes.
Jonah complied, and everything was at bliss.
